There's no good wasabi in a tube. Good sushi joints make it fresh.

Can't you just buy the powder and moisten it?

Well, there's wasabi in a tube, and good wasabi. Pick one.

Try fresh horseradish against the kind in a jar, to see what I mean.

No

If you have a good Japanese store near you , you can get it...It comes vacuum packed..You also need (not) a piece of sharks skin to grind it on....

My favorite sushi guy serves a good quality tube wasabi to the irregulars.. he grinds the real stuff for the regulars...yes there is hierarchy in sushi bar customers LOL

I knew about the place near Florence, but did not know you could get it in a tube from them. I may need to take a trip to the coast again soon.

I did a search but did not find anything - javadog - do you recall the terms you used?

I was just in Corti Brothers in Sacramento and they had some....they will mail order. The real stuff ground on a shark skin is a treat.

The place that my wife and I like to go in Houston has the real stuff. The old chef used to give it to us automatically. He left, the new chef tried to give us the powdered stuff, ugh!

The powdered stuff is just hot. The fresh stuff is a bit hot, though usually not as much, but also has a fantastic flavor that you just don't get from the powder.

ha!

I overlooked the simple...

Florence facility where they started is closed.

turns out they do not sell to stores (phone call today) - he did say there is one store in Beavertron that has it -- for those of you who want good wasabi but are too lazy to grind it yourself (like me).

I'm gonna mail order some of it and pay the shipping tax.

Being a sushi-head people are always asking what place has the best sushi.

The answer is the place where they know your name.

I have two such places.

I also have friends that will only go out for sushi if I join them.

When I was working, back in the good old days, I used to get invited to a cocktail party in NYC put on by a Japanese company. They were a good customer of ours. They would actually bring a sushi chef (perhaps not the right term) from Japan for the particular occasion. The offering was spectacular and the wasabi was very tasty.

I guess I should just give up - to get more of the paste than I need ($21 worth is the min. order), I have to pay ANOTHER $20 in shipping, handling.

No Way.

the S&B stuff isn't real wasabi - it is 'murican horseradish with some mustard added

I've got 2 tubes sitting the fridge of the fake stuff right now.
