Me with an iPhone, who'd a thunk?
Wife derails and gets 2 new phones today on a planned upgrade that was long overdue. The Samsungs we had were evil. Seriously evil dialing on their own in the middle of the night (I leave mine off). Her thing called the ex husband at 3 in the morning. That and the butt dials to her daughter 3 times while we were driving and talking about said daughter. She's listening in all along. Good thing I wasn't speaking my real thoughts
![]() I wonder what the hell I'm going to do with this new thing and its Siri. My God, no one ever has to think for themselves ever again. More evil. |

I know what you mean.
When my management job went away I had my wife get me a cheap phone that, get this, ONLY made/received calls. Just a couple of weeks ago, she upgraded her phone(again) and got me a Blackberry in the deal. I don't surf the Web or anything but it does have GPS and I have my email setup on it. Strange thing though...most of the emails I get are from the Pelican website regarding subscribed threads. ![]()

So what are some of the better apps? Didn't you guys say I could use this thing as a carpenter's level and compute percentages of incline? What else? It has a stopwatch so I guess I could use it as a speedometer and lap timer?

there are a bunch of free apps, including one that shows level or not
some photo apps, incl. a light meter; one for speedtraps; vehicle tilt; ... There is an entire thread on apps here - I only know about the free apps.... |

You and the wife should buy/get your apps under the same iTunes account.
That way they are available for both phones. Mapquest has a good GPS app with voice directions. squareup.com if you want to give your clients the option to pay by credit card. iHandy Carpenter is now $1.99, good deal.

Appbox lite is free and is a pretty great utility.

So, just over a yr ago, got an "I-touch"...Now, I make phone calls all over the world thru Skype & Google Voice, have 2,600 songs on it and can even read books I get thru the Public Library... You soon tire of the small screen, but nice to get email/ck websites with something you carry in your pocket....Enjoy

If you travel much Yelp is great for finding hotels and food.
I'm beginning to like my iPhone. I wish I could get a cell phone for communicating and keep the iPhone for the email and apps. Or - maybe this is too much to ask for - maybe the iPhone will someday be a useful communication device.

My wife and I both hate our iPhones. We're the only people in the world who hate them, I guess...

+1 on the Otterbox.
I have the one with the geeky snap in holster. Phone is OK, but I don't really use it to its potential.

The accu weather app is cool. You click maps and animation and you can see rain clouds as they approach your location. When clear, you don't get much. It was great camping a few weeks ago. We could see the storm headed our way, as opposed to the included weather app that came with the iPhone which doesn't do much.
"Iheartradio" is cool, you can listen to about 750 AM and FM radio stations across the country, free too.

Thanks. I'll look into some of this. I used to sometimes wear earphones when working. After twice through the playlist I was done for a month. Pandora and radio are nice for the variety.
I use AccuWeather all the time on the computer. I'm tired of all the constant changing of the site, but I guess that's what people do ostensibly to keep business. |

iPhone haters...
Poor battery life as the phone ages. I am lucky to get 2 hours on a full charge.
Poor signal reception. Delicate... too fragile for us, the mute button breaks very easily They're nice when they're new but once they get a year on them, they're junk...

My wife has the 3G and I have the 3GS. Perhaps the 4 will last longer, I don't know...

I had my 3GS for over two years.... Battery was still workable for a full day, signal was about as good as any phone in the area....
And put the damn thing in a decent case and it will last. About everyone I know with and iPhone is pretty rough with them and they all have no issues. To tell you how rough with mine I was, it had a crack in the plastic on the back, still worked fine. Never had an issue with the mute switch. Oh and that was a 3GS, the 4S is considerably better built. |

They take good pictures, and it is easy to email them straight off the phone.
I am still resisting, but I am getting weaker... |
