24 grams of coffee beans that I have roasted within the last week ground at setting number 20 on my Baratza Virtuoso, then into an Aeropress (looks like a big syringe) and pour water just off the boil and let it steep for about 3-4 minutes then press. Fill the rest of the way with hot water. Works for me, but I really need a roaster, the heat gun/stainless steel bowl method is getting me down.
I like the Aeropress because you don't get the "sludge" you get with a FP. Altough at my age I could probably use the extra fiber. |
percolators suck? honestly, the only time i use one is at camp. my buddy has a camp version.
what about cowboy coffee? i imagine it is like french press stuff..but with "texture". |
In 2007, I had some Romanians over for a factory visit. They couldn't get "coffee", aka espresso, in the hotel, so I brough in my semi-auto espresso machine. It got the idea going to buy an office super automatic. After trying the super auto, I bought one for the house.
4 years & 10,000 cups later, it is going great. Using my favorite whole bean coffee, Eight-o-clock 100% Colombian, it produces in 30 seconds a great cup of coffee. Is it the best coffee? Maybe not, but it is damn good. Hard to beat, no brain and fresh everytime. The only problem is, like having a kegorator, you can pull one anytime. Which means you drink more coffee than you might think... |
My dad and I have a stove top percolator for deer hunting. We use it in the camper. The coffee it produces is not sophisticated, but its strong and hot, and thats all that counts when its 17 degrees outside and the wind is howling.

I'm a lazy old fart and I love my Saeco Incanto. Push one button and this thing brews up a fantastic cup of coffee.

I use it at work and just use the hot water out of the coffee maker. Done in under a minute. |
what about Twater? I thought coffee nuts were really anal about that?

I personally use a Chemex coffee maker:

I'm not a huge coffee drinker but do partake enough to appreciate whatever improvements are possible. I have used a blade grinder (Braun) with whole beans as well as bought pre-ground coffee but didn't know about the burr grinder - that's awesome! Always loved the Joe DiMaggio/Mr Coffee connection so will stick with that brand - such as this one: Amazon.com: Mr. Coffee IDS77 Electric Coffee Grinder with Chamber Maid Cleaning System, Black: Kitchen & Dining My Blade grinder never did the job all that well so this will be a nice improvement! :p Also, thanks to this thread I brought out my Bodium French Press [which I hadn't used for YEARS] and this morning had the best cup of java I've had in quite a while: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1322867346.jpg Now I'm sure this will amount to sacrilege to many of you - but I've always put hot chocolate mix in my coffee to make it a "mocha"....I don't know if that will ever change but I like it that way...;) I've also had smooth and lighter Peruvian and Nicaraguan blends but like the Kona blends more when it's cooler out. LOTS of blends and varieties....not enough time to sample them all! :rolleyes: |

use ganache (aka, "sludge") coffee nuts say the blade grinders are bad b/c of temperature and particle size (or variation thereof) you can buy a hand cranked, backpackable burr grinder (GSI?) for $15 I still use a blade grinder b/c I am a primitive, unsophicated cave man |
