+1 the Mercedes.
WWII started, and it never got its shot at fame. Its predecessor's record has yet to be touched. Who knows how many drivers the project would of gone through though, given the history of speed records in Germany at the time, maybe its a good thing it didn't get a shot.

i believe it was a hopped up 3000hp motor out of a ME-109

memory was wrong...wasn't in the ME-109. Was in other aircraft. It was the DB-603 V-12
