I had a buddy that had a fast gas powered rc car with a 2 speed trans. I think he said it was one of the 50-60mph models. You need a really big space to drive something that fast. I can't even imagine the one in the link. 0-60 in 2.3 secs and top speed of 100mph.

Its been so long but I think our open class 1/24 slot cars were doing way more than that on the Blue King track, Brakes and Stickum (glue) were needed to slow down enough coming out of the bank

I remember back when i was a kid, there were these gas powerd cars that they would run on a circle track. the car was tethared to a pole in the center and the guy would just stand on a platform on the pole. The car would just run in a circle. Never really understood the point of it. but i remember they were fast as hell.

$1000. Three weekends at the track going "slow" in a real car. Interesting, but you need priorities.

Ya might wanna google "tether cars".
Some of em hit 200 mph. Kinda like the old airplanes we used to fly in a circle on strings, 'cept these cars haul ass. EDIT just saw that Vinman mentioned it, the whole idea was to hit top speed. they had some sort of timing device and the top dog was the guy who could build the fastest car. Been around since the 50's. Last edited by sammyg2; 12-02-2011 at 12:48 PM.. |

That brings back memories. I had one of these in red when I was a kid.
My dad made a tie down point on our carport and had a 2-3ft tether. Once the engine was leaned out a bit that thing would run fast enough it just looked like a blurry red ring. At least now I know what they are called.

My 16 yr old built his own RC from a Traxis chassis. He was in the back of the truck controlling it as the car went beside us. I got to 65 and he was leading me. All wheel drive. He sold it for $800.00 and is now saving for his first car......

I just can't shake the image in my head of playing with this thing in a parking lot, hitting a handicap ramp at ~100mph, the car going airborne and smashing through a window or something...

I have something similar to this. Got about 40+ years ago.
I want to say it was an Indy car or a Mclaren (sp?). ![]() |
