40th Anniversary of "On Any Sunday"

Dated, but still fun to watch. Here is a clip of the final scene with one of this board's favorite actors:

I saw that movie about every weekend for and entire summer. My brother worked at the cinema. It remains one of my all time favorites. The footage of the kids riding bmx was forever stamped and replayed in my memory.

I remember seeing this at a buddy's b-day party around 1980-81. I was sooo jealous because he had dirt bikes and my folks wouldn't let me near them.

I raced in the Elsinore GP when he did in that movie, he was using a different name, I can't remember what it was. I look for my bike every time I see the movie but there was so much mud I can't ever find it, IF it was even in the movie. And again in 71 in the 250 Expert class when he was number 44 using his own name.

during one of the barstow-vegas races that mcqueen signed up for under a secret name, he came hauling ass up to an overpass, where another dez rat was stopped taking a drink and fixing his bike. he was beat to snot, stopped his bike, lit up a smoke, then asked the guy if he had any chapstick. the guy did. steve-o then promptly undid his leathers, wiped the chapstick all over his ass, threw the guy the chapstick, and proceeded to fire up his dez sled and off into the dez he split!

yep monkeybutt-itis just goes with the sport. ask me how i know???

I can't even count how many times I've seen that movie. Brings back a lot of memories...

this movie is kind of an obsession with me. when i was out in the desert, i bought that old 250 dirt bike, so i could "live" on any sunday out there. in the last 10 years, ive probably seen the movie 200 times.

when i first moved to california, i went down to Riverside to Malcolm Smith Motorsports. I asked the girl if he actually ever came to the dealership. she laughed and said "haha, he's here every day. do you want to meet him?" to which i replied, "heck yeah!" she sent me upstairs to his office and i got to say HI. super nice guy.

For some of us, it was the beginning of the movie that had the biggest impact
