Good News for Computer Users!

Adobe cuts Flash development, conceding to Apple - chicagotribune.com

Not sure why you say that's good news as a lot of sites that have Flash screens look very cool, but it has helped my website development business as many people don't know how to code JavaScript or jquery to get a 'flash looking' slideshow on their pages.

They are killing mobile Flash player development.

Gotta' agree with Webb here. I am SO sick and tired of the over-use of this technology to add stupid flashy and obnoxious animations and embedments into every stupid web site. Not to mention I'm doubly sick and tired of having to constantly download updates to this software. Good riddance!

Bad news, Flash has evolved into what it is because it's the best technology for things like video playback and a host of other things. This means more java in place of flash components, which is terrible for everyone. HTML5 is not a Flash replacement as hinted in the article.

Flash is a viral breeding ground

it was an efficient way for slow connections to do graphics - that's the only good thing I can say about it

I'm not a fan of Adobe period.

You're thinking Active-X.

You're forgetting streaming video, streaming audio, vector graphics animations and compressed resource files (10k for an animation)

So what about Photoshop? Illustrator? InDesign? Acrobat? Premier? These are considered industry-standard for things like:

Graphics, Web, Print Design, Document Creation & management, Video and audio editing.

What do you propose as solutions in your anti-adobe world? Keep in mind MS is dropping silverlight, so there goes embedded video playback (with DRM). HTML 5 will NOT have the same level of capabilities as Adobe Flash in terms of animation, vector graphics, etc.

HTML 5 is not a Flash replacement, yet.

Flash is not the best choice for video playback and a poor choice for a host of things that it is used for.

Flash evolved to what it is because Macromedia/Adobe were able to wrap a GUI around Actionscript so that designers with no scripting skills could build really bad, bloated crap with it.

Good Actionscript guys like MCA on this board can create great Flash content with not much more than a text editor.

Unfortunately the value of guys like him is devalued because someones neighbors cousins paperboy has a brother who has a copy of Adobe Flash and is willing to make you crap for $10 an hour.
