I think this is proof LEO is for revenue generation

This morning on my way to pick up my employee for work, I got pulled over just as I hit the stoplight on the onramp to the freeway. He followed me for several blocks.
I gave him my license and insurance, and asked him what was wrong. "Brake light out" he said.
He went back to his car, and came back a couple minutes later.

AND WROTE ME FOR NO PROOF OF INSURANCE.:rolleyes:

Despite that I gave it to him. He even handed it back.

Of course, I went to the donut factory and gave them my insurance paper. They dropped the $550 ticket and charged me a $25 processing fee.

I wonder how many other people they've done that to... or how many they've pulled over for having long hair

Rikao4 12-08-2011 01:25 PM

why did you accept the ticket..
realizes one does not want to argue..
but..
in TX I must sign..
& I would have spoken up..

While I was waiting at the on-ramp meter this morning, at least 3 or 4 vehicles with only one occupant blasted by in the carpool lane. If "law enforcement" so motivated just by revenue, why don't LEOs stake out freeway on-ramps during rush hour? It would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

stomachmonkey 12-08-2011 01:26 PM

Was your brake light out?

Rick Lee 12-08-2011 01:29 PM

I got nailed for no insurance during a stop for speeding. Ticket was $1000, but was dropped as soon as I faxed in proof that I had insurance at the time, no processing fee. Beat the speeding ticket in court at a later date.

They do. And it is.

I got stopped on a Saturday night at about midnight for a tail light out, and I am 100% sure that I did not have a tail light out. I had just inspected the car a day prior, and when we got home that night, I had my lady apply the brakes, and sure enough, they all worked.
I was cordial with the officer, and had my lady and kid with me, and after he saw that I was sober, and had all my paper work , sent me on my way with a warning.

I have yet to see it.

I'd have no problem if they did enforce it. (Well, unless it's like how they did with you.) Granted it's no more about safety than writing people up for 80 on I-5 in the middle of nowhere. But it certainly adds to the state coffers (hard to fight a carpool violation ticket) and it aids in upholding "social fairness," if nothing else.

I once got a carpool violation ticket, way back around 1992 or '93. Middle of the night, around 1am, on our 520 freeway. Car next to me. Car coming up QUICKLY behind me. I move over into the carpool to open my lane, and the car whizzes past me, between us.
The car next to me? He pulls in behind me and lights me up. Didn't even SEE the other car. I couldn't tell it was a cop.

Cool story

patssle 12-08-2011 02:43 PM

Cop pulled me over on the freeway, said I was doiong 77 in a 65 zone.

1. It was a small Texas town. You're stupid if you speed in a Texas town.
2. I don't do 10+ over the speed limit.
3. I would have been flying by everybody had I been doing that speed.
4. I've never had a speeding ticket in my life.

Fking lying cop.

At least over here in Arizona if its not 6-9 am or 3-7 pm, you can use the carpool lane just like another lane on the road. They are only restricted during rush hour time periods and not at all on weekends.

We live in a rules-based society. 99% of the time it works fine. You just have to learn to roll with that other 1%. It ain't perfect. Deal with it.

Zeke 12-08-2011 05:20 PM

Wolfe, how could you sign a ticket for no ins when the ins paperwork is still in your hand?

What's missing here?

I would have refused to sign and let the ass hole take me to jail with the ins papers in my pocket. They better have a real reason to book me.

cgarr 12-08-2011 05:26 PM

I just pull my Insurance up online and hand him my phone.

About two months ago, I was pulled for doing something like 7 over with lazer. He gave me a no insurance ticket and let me go. I had to look through my mess in the S2000 but couldn't find it. He didn't have time to wait because he was busy pulling everyone over. These bastard were sitting under a tree during morning traffic. I had to pay a handling fee once I shown them proof at the court house.

Some of you may remember my post a couple of years ago for getting cited for watching the train with my little kids at the light rail station. My kids were very little age 2 and 4. Two cops going through the station asking everyone for tickets as soon as the train let off. We were the very last ones because we were watching the trains go by. He cited me while the other cop , I will never forget this, standing back up against the fence with his hand on his gun with a mad and tough UFC fighter stare down looking at us. Now, I am the most non threatening guy you will ever meet. I am sorry my kids had to go through this.

I show up in court and the judge dismisses the ticket. I still had to go to the freaking window and pay a 29 dollar handling or court fee.
