My pet peeve....

right now are people looking at their cell phones while walking. Most of the time they are looking down with the occasional glimpse up. Fortunately I am retired but would think that working in a large city would be a hassle , I would end up bodychecking cell ph. texters( or whatever they do) who dont pay attention. I learned my lesson when I was hiking in Northern England(Wainwrights coast 2 coast). I was looking down at my gps and my one foot went down a rabbit hole. Of course I tripped, my gps went flying, sun glasses went flying and I was flat on my face in the grass. Fortunately the only thing lacking was my dignity. They should have laws for no texting(or staring at a cell ph. ) while walking like they do when driving. I can see it coming up. Older guy gets sued for bodychecking cell ph. user:(.Your thoughts on for or against such legislation before I get charged.SmileWavy

Last yr, a 14 yo girl fell down an open manhole because she was texting while she was walking. The hole was coned off but she was oblivious. She sued NYC and won.

I live in Canada but came from the Uk. I give my undivided attention to walking and bodychecking cellphone users.:) I miss the times I used to play rugby(like your football in the US)and can play catchup now.:D. Is the future use of cell ph. use every in doubt? Probably not - risks? Brain cancer, falling into water fountains, body checked, users have higher risks and therefore barely insurable LOL. Clint Eastwood, says make my day. I say u make your own day. Stay safe!
I need you all out there in one piece to keep this a great forum.SmileWavy

On one of my customer sites you're not allowed to answer a cell phone while walking.
You have to stop then answer it and you can't start walking again until the conversation is over.

I'm not sure you could ever do the same in a city.

I see people almost everyday talking on their cell phones while their cars and that's supposed to be against the law.

Hah, you'd love this then.

Brick Lane made Britain's first 'Safe Text' street with padded lampposts to prevent mobile phone injuries | Mail Online

Yeah, they wrapped padding around lamp posts so people wouldn't hurt themselves when they run into the poles.

I've been annoyed since I was a teen by folks who weren't paying attention to where they walk and that was in the 80s long before cell phones were causing the issue. My habit has always been to just stop in my tracks and wait for them to run into me. The shock on their faces is usually pretty entertaining. It's a bit surprising too since I'm 6'2" and 200#

I'll settle for killing the ones who use their cell phone while driving and weaving all over the place.

We can deal with the pedestrian phoners later.

people are so stupid it makes me sad

I think we should definitely bodycheck, and possibly, kill people who are walking while talking on a cell phone. There are plenty of other reasons why I think we should kill people, too. Don't even get me started.

I saw a teenager walk out into traffic texting. Almost got clipped.

The really sad thing about texting and texting fatalities is that most peoples fatal text is incredibly stupid and trivial. Like OMG, Get out of HERE !!!
