We have had a few Hilux, and lately an Isuzu all of which have a pair of batteries each
almost inevitably slow cranking= duff battery
replace in pair just like in a torch!

Also the Trooper has a system where if the oil pressure isn't high enough it wont allow it to fire anyway
so its a no-brainer not keeping on top of the batteries

Saw a WW2 special where they compared starting a 12cyl plane with warm oil vs. cold oil (aka superglue).
The warm engine fired right up.
The cold engine didn't.
They sometimes would heat oil in barrels and pour into the plane just before a mission.

I didn't drive today but wanted to see if it would be dead or alive after 24+hours sitting.

It fired right up. Stupid truck.


We did reset the timers for our block heaters as they were off by quite a bit.

It's a company leased truck so I really can't do much with it but I will make recommendations as needed.

In many of the new diesels engine oil pressure is used to fire the injector, with a electronic signal from one of the computers...


You need enough voltage to:

*spin the engine to develop oil pressure

*heat the glow pugs

*actuate the injectors

Also you need an oil that is not like molasses when cold...

If your battery array is sub-par.... one or more of the above needs is not met...

= no start

One thing you can try is a little more Cetane in the fuel. Its not going to make you spin over faster but it will require much less effort to ignite and so you'll fire right up. There is a silver bottle at Advance called "Power Service." Have you boss get a case of that and try it out...I bet you keep it in the tank. For the winter you should use the white bottle of power service but it doesn't boost cetane as much and instead keep the diesel from gelling more.
