It seems clear to me that the Cayman is Porsche's racing platform future. It is Porsche's first-ever mid-engine coupe. Hard top. That means the chassis is stiffer and lighter than, say, a Boxster. My advice? Take one or two minutes to find out what model is the fastest, lightest and has the best suspension goodies, and buy that one. I know they make an S. I wonder if they make a Turbo yet. Then again, the Turbo would be heavier. And it would accelerate like a cat with it's hair on fire.

If you wanted to be talked out of this car, you posed the question to the wrong crowd.

Reading this thread just sort of hit me and made me look back almost 40 years when the 914/6 was compared to the 911. Scott

The only reason not to get one for me would be leg room, but it's probably only an inch difference to the Carrera.

Lovely cars, make so much sense. But odd to me that the Boxter preceeded the Cayman, convertibles usually follow the coupes. But they are siblings, not twins.

I'm saving this link and pic, for when you buy a boxster or cayman.....

I'm a smidge over 6', and could stand to lose more than a few, and have no problems with my boxster, even with a rollcage. I've also no issues fitting in a cayman.

I also can't drive an early 911 unless it has an aftermarket steering wheel.

You have to try one on for size.

Just keep your eye on the mirrors, be prepared to let faster cars by. ;)

I'll own up. When the 964 first came out, I thought they were butt-ugly and swore I'd never own one. I've since owned 3, including a 964 cup(sold) and am building a 964 track car, and now I prefer the 964 look over a 993.

Said the same about 996, but owned a 2003 gt3, and would probably buy a 996 again, possibly a cab for a cruiser.....

Also said I'd never buy a boxster..... built a boxster-spec last year......
