Auto maintenance - 100K miles

My wifes 2005 Hyundai Elantra is ticking over 100K miles.

It gets regular oil changes... we have done all the other usual maintenance... brakes, filters, etc.

She is asking me "Is there anything else we should do?"

What about automatic transmission fluid? Does modern automatic transmission fluid need to be changed?

Spark plugs? Cables?

Do any of you take your cars in for "scheduled maintenance" or with modern chemistry and metallurgy is that just a money maker for the dealership?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Not familiar with Hundais........i assume they use a timing belt?
Most cars recommend belt replacement at around 90-95K miles

Good one, Thanks!

Ya think a 944 owner would have remembered that!

all the above

you could look at the long term maint. thread on 911 tech bbs for ideas

but essentially, all rubber and plastic will die a lot faster than metal; but check the metal for rust

to be honest, I'd just expect that a Hundawg is not worth the effort and should be put out of its misery anyway - not trying to tromp on any sentimental value you or your wife have in it...

My Chevy truck just turned 200,000 miles.

I changed all the belts and hoses at 100,000, time to do it again.

Belts, hoses, plugs, just because. The tranny fluid and diffs have all been done a few times.

I hear ya, it is/was a Cali car, garaged at home and at work, paint still looks good, no rips in leather interior, runs smooth as silk.

I'm on my third Hyund... I usually dump them at 80K...

beleive it or not this was an upgrade to the 90's Nissan pickup truck she (wife) was driving.

If we had the budget I would cut it lose... but we have to get another year out of it, they money just isn't there.

If any modern owner's manual mentions what to do at 100,000 miles, it's likely "Stop buy your local dealership and buy a new model!" Car makers don't expect people to keep cars that long, especially not the original owner.

I'd do plugs, belts, hoses and fluids (most "lifetime" fluids are intended to last 100k).

On a 100,000 mile car thats never had the tranny fluid changed as long as the fluid is not burnt leave it alone.

Changing it now can actually cause problems.

Check the suspension parts, especially if you have crappy roads like we have here in MI. Struts, shocks, tie rods, ball joints, linkages, bearings, stuff like that...
