McCurtain County Oklahoma
A local resident (who remained anonymous) griped and complained that THEIR tax dollars were going to support people who volunteered to join the American Services. It was not up to THEIR tax dollars to support, feed, house, provide medical care, or education to ANYONE who volunteered to defend this country and go to war. That was their problem for volunteering. My Father-In-Law (retired LtCol Artillery, Vietnam Veteran) took pen in hand and responded with the following: "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called the (children) of God." Matthew 5;9 They carried Lady Liberty's colors on the field of honor in a most glorious manner. All were young, some were younger than the kids in your high school events, but each had the heart and soul of an eagle in the wild. They worked awfully hard to prove themselves worthy of carrying those colors and when the call came to do so, they went proudly, never shirking the chance, even at the risk of the direst personal cost. Many went, most came back, but more than a few did not. Even more than that did not return physically whole and all, in varying degrees, will carry the scars of battle on their souls until eternity beckons. The Red, The Yellow, The Black, The White - There's no distinction in Liberty's sight - for She knows that they will always answer her call and defend her with all that they have to give. She is proud to know they are hers and they are even prouder knowing they carried Her colors without faltering and often without thanks from those who benefited the most whenever and wherever She needed them. These are the Veteran's of McCurtain County. Been there, done that, and would gladly do it again. Feel free to quote him.
