Trademarking a Board Game
A friend of mine has created a board game to be used in marriage counseling as well as with children of couples undergoing counseling and could see doing a military spouse version. Seems to be a big hit.
What steps does she need to take to trademark it?

Shawn, you can do it all right here: Trademarks Home. But, you really are better off paying a trademark/patent attorney to do it for you. It is time consuming as all get out and the search engine, to see if someone has already registered a similar product, on the feds site sucks. A trademark attorney should have purchased software that does a much better search and makes things hassle free. Well worth the money paid.

Make sure to Copyright all the contents too. Between TM and CR you have as much protection as a patent if you know how to use them. CR the packaging, everything. Of course CR's are automatic, but got through the paces just the same.

Thanks Guys.
Any thoughts on a range for a trademark attorney to run the process start to finish? I'm assuming there haven't been much in the way of board games or similar in this area. My friend's marriage counselor thought it was very unique.

Tough to say for me Shaun as East coast attorney fees are much higher than here in Mid-Missouri. Rough estimate is probably $1000 plus patent/trademark filing fees.

OK, thanks Kurt, she's actually in Tempe, AZ. Sounds like a good way to go for this.
