Wireless IP security camera
Has anyone had good luck with a wireless IP camera?
I'm looking for something to put at a remote location, and send me an email with a video clip when it senses motion. I just returned 2 Dlink DCS-942 because they were too sensitive (motion triggered every few minutes) |

I'm using a linksys WGA-54 -something with no trouble. I'm using 3rd party software and had to fiddle with the active monitoring area and sensitivity to keep it from triggering all the time though... Every lighting and traffic situation is different.
Edit to add - this is the SW I use to monitor house and Hot tub http://www.h264soft.com/

be sure the mount is solid - that might be causing some motion
also, do you need low light or night vision? storage? |

Dan, do you have a dedicated computer running that software? I'd rather not have a dedicated computer, just a camera & router.

I don't need local storage, I basically just want it to send an email with a 5 or 10 second video clip whenever someone opens the door. |

Yeah, I run a PC because I want to see the video later. Dog, cat, naked girl, whatever...
Pretty sure you can set it up to just notify though. I'll need to look at the setup stuff.

I work in this industry. Intelligent Video Analytics , Automated Video Monitoring, Scalable Security Solutions for Airports, Retail, Transportation, Port and Maritime, Gaming and Entertainment, Corporate and Enterprise, City and Urban, Schools and Universities This is not an advertisement as I sell to the camera/dvr manufacturer directly.
Today, most companies selling inexpensive products with analytics (video analysis) are only selling unintelligent motion detection. In the next few months, more less expensive cameras will becoming out with intelligent motion detection. If you can wait, there should be an answer for you soon.

Kevin,
It is always on streaming for free and they will also send you emails with photos attached when movement is detected for free. You get 30 days free subscription to the recording program it works pretty slick it will even export recorded clips for you. These also can be views on phones or ipads ect. It will give you a link to the camera also so it can be shared with others if needed. The downside is the paid recording fee (9 buck a months I think) is per camera so I am sure there are better options out there if you need to record multiple areas. I went with the cheaper camera that does not have sound or a light but the quality is very good. ( can watch fan blades spinning smoothly ![]()

Good thread,
Need night vision, small and concealable (theft deterrrent), able to transmit across about 1/2 mile cordless (only need three like this, we have ~57 acres), what about obstructions like a hill?, send to dedicated computer for recording? Someone is cutting my fences and tearing out/up the posts. The previous owners were very troublesome for the neighbors and were quite despised. Most neighbors have stopped messing as they know we are a different set of owners and we do not mess with their property. Also have issues with poachers and thieves and stray dogs and coyotes and cougars. And I do not really live in the country, it is WAY more populated than our place in Texas which was considered "city life" by most around.

We've used a D-link pan/tilt/zoom camera at the lake for a couple of years...you can set up the DDNS to update the dynamic camera IP (if you're not on a static IP)

The (new) Dlink did not work as advertised. Could not adjust sensitivity low enough to not get false alarms. I also have a TrendNet, which works fine as a remote camera, it's email does not work with modern email providers. |
