Illegal Wolf-Dog Hybrid Caught Roaming Streets of New York
Published December 23, 2011 NEW YORK – An illegal wolf-dog hybrid was found roaming wild in a residential neighborhood in Brooklyn, authorities said Thursday. Police found the approximately 3-year-old, 53-pound female wearing a collar and chain near Elton Street and Vandalia Avenue in East New York on Tuesday evening, according to Richard Gentles, spokesperson for New York Animal Care and Control. "She's not a wild animal," Gentles told the New York Post. "Nobody's come forward to claim her," he added, noting that it is illegal to possess a wolf-dog hybrid in New York City. The animal, which was apparently being kept as a pet, will not be put up for adoption or be freed into the wild. She will be probably be sent to a sanctuary for unwanted wolf-dogs, a spokesman for Animal Care and Control told The Associated Press. Gentles said the animal, which was reportedly called "Lady" by the authorities who found her, is now staying in a room with other canines, though she has her own enclosure. Wolf-dog hybrids are a cross between a gray wolf and either a German shepherd, a malamute, or a husky, but without genetic testing they won't know for sure, he said. Yeah, I've seen Coyotes in Dana Point, on my block that looked bigger than that and looked like show dogs.

Strangely all dogs are wolf hybrids. In other words all dogs are descended from wolves its just a matter of percentage. That dog looks awfully small to be a hybrid of a percentage that would be illegal. An adult female gray wolf first generation hybrid that a friends business partner had was 165 pounds and its nose would hit a 6' person in the stomach in a normal stance. This creature would look through you into your fears and there was a disturbing intelligence presence when the animal was in the room. Beautiful and graceful animal though.

We used to have a wolf/husky hybrid. Best dog ever!
Beautiful pure white coat, very intelligent, and even though she was probably the runt of the litter due to her size (still a good-sized dog), she still seemed to rule every other dog she met. Out one day, two much larger dogs came running up to us very aggressively. She simply stopped, and stood at attention. The big dogs barked in her face for a couple seconds, and then quickly shut up, and walked away with tails between their legs! I never saw her even twitch a muscle. Somehow, in doggy language, she clearly communicated that these two big brutes were no match for her. Pretty amazing dog. Always friendly, never saw her get aggressive, yet nobody would mess with her. |
So are NYPD going to start raids on all of the wolf brothers who like to get down and dirty with domestic *****es?
