The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast; the slow one now will later be fast....

I love Bob. Always have. Always will. His music and poetry have been constant companions in my life since I first bought his "Hey Mr. Tambourine Man" with my allowance at the age of 13.

I had to chuckle though today at Restoration Hardware, where they had a big stand flogging the "Bob Dylan Christmas Gift Pack". 10 classic CD's, a nice picture book and a friggin T-shirt for....wait for it...$359.-! All in a huge white box with a nice red ribbon around it.

There's "selling out"—and then there's "selling out in style".

Bob always gets it right.

His nephew was my roommate in college. Spoke with him on the phone, met him once, learned a lot about him, saw tons of photos, heard lots of stories. An amazing man, an amazing mind.

Dylan was one of my favorites.
After Slow Train Coming....not so much.
A great talent no doubt about it.

Oh....and whoever it is that did the Knocking on Heavens Door cover recently should be hanged.

Don't give up on him yet, this song is from Modern Times, and there is a ton of superb vintage video in this clip . . . .

If you like Dylan you should check out the documentary on DVD (think I will watch it this weekend)

Bob Dylan - No Direction Home

The folk movement HATED him when he switched to electric.

Personally, I have never forgiven him for that.

Not at all... watch the documentaries, he was touring England when he made the switch... played the first half of the show acoustic, second half electric. The crowd loudly booed him the second half (footage in the documentary).
They interviewed people leaving and they talked about Bob "selling out" and were genuinely ticked off.

Obviously Dylan got over it.

This thread is starting to bring back some memories . . .

One of my favorites: Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands

I guess I should get around to buying some music to replace those scratchy beer-splattered LPs . . .

Sorry Scott, I was pulling your plonker.

But I do wonder about the demographic that's buying the $359.- Bob Dylan Christmas Box at Restoration Hardware.

I'm a big big fan going back to the '60s, when I was still in short pants. I'm also a Minnesotan and I have lots of Dylan stories for you, including dating his daughter in college. When we meet some day, I can talk your ear off w/ BD stories. I've got Christopherson stories and Neuwirth stories and Willy Nelson stories and JD Souther stories as well for you.

If the collected works of Dylan is worth $359, then a copy of Blonde on Blonde must be worth about $350. His considerable talent seems scattered and inconsistent except on that album. It may prove to be the pinnacle of an amazing career, but you never know with him.
