What phone to choose?
It's almost 3 years now and the Blackberry is getting tired. Time for a new phone.
I made a visit to the "phone shop" and think it's time to move away from the BBerry and go for either the I phone or Android Samsung Nexus/Galaxy 2S. What would be your choice and why? I don't care to much about the apple / Android war. For me they are both big corporations going after my $$. |

Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's the most future-proof of the current Android phones. If you don't want to go that route, iPhone 4S. I really like my Galaxy S2 (after having an iPhone 3G for a couple of years) but if I were buying now it would be the Nexus with v4.0.

His (the sales person) conclusion was the I phone sucks cause it has battery issues and it's a closed platform. The Nexus is cool because of the large screen and adroid 4.0 but lacks a 8.0 px camera. The Galaxy S2 has a slightly slower processor but an 8.0 px camera, and the 4.0 upgrade will be available from Samsung early next year. But....that's sales person talk. I appreciate your (user experience) opinion. |

iPhone is really easy to use and integrates with life easily if you already have something like an ipod.
If you do - hard to go wrong. The andriods are good too but my opinion is the iphone is just a higher quality of 'fit and finish' device from the 'look and feel' to the operation of the software and usage.

If you have or are going to get an iPad, then get an iPhone and enjoy the integrated apple ecosystem. I switched from blackberry and the pc world about 6 months ago, the integrated life is easier. Droid and apple have plenty of apps, both can interface easy enough to the work environment as well.
It all comes down to the ecosystem you like the best.

Samsung did say that ICS would be out for the Galaxy S2 early next year. But then you have to wait for the carriers to add their bloatware and then push it out unless you want to root the phone (which I don't).
About the only thing I miss is the seamless integration with iTunes. I manually deal with songs but the OS is pretty smart about knowing that if you drop an mp3 file on the phone it is a song. Downside to the iPhone is the screen size and high resolution. That makes for pretty small text sizes for a lot of default things. You can change the font size in many of the system level things, not everything works that way. One thing I like about the GS2 is the large screen combined with a relatively low resolution. That makes for big text which my old eyes like. I can actually read the phone without reading glasses. I cannot do that for much of the stuff on the retina display on the iPhone. |

I just spent 9 days in Hawaii with just my Iphone 4s. I kept up to date with work, called folks (obviously!), and my wife kept up on FB. We did other web based stuff like find an urgent care and check on flight status AND surfed Pelican! Iphone rocks. I dumped my BB in October. Should have never gotten it.

I like iphone for a number of reasons, one is when I travel with my iPad, I only need one charger.

Like Todd I jumped from a BB in Sept to the Samsung IIs. A great phone that does everything without the gooey cult feeling of the iPhone.
