The real issue and stupidity IMHO is that you can't shoot a cow with a semi auto handgun in the calibers police usually carry. It just won't kill it, at least not humanely and quickly. If they decide to shoot it, it needs to be shot with a rifle or a shotgun with slugs, with a well aimed shot behind the head or behind the front elbow. Don't know where this is at, but in all places in the US that I have lived in, at least some cops have a rifle in their vehicles. They'll be .223s but still will far outperform a handgun both in energy, penetration and precision.

Need to know what was happening before the video...

Most likely could have been averted with a generous helping of feed.

Oh, and our bull (small guy only weighing in at about 1600 pounds) got out this past summer and did "charge" in the direction of our local constabulary. He thought they might have some feed and was running to start begging. Fortunately we were there and DID have feed. The guys were amazed when my Wife started petting the bull and he was responding to her voice. He follows her around sometimes like a puppy dog. He also has this occasional cat (both bull and cat are black) who hangs out with him. Protection and finder of mice!

A friend of my father's once got into breeding Brahman bulls. They were massive beasts and the big ones were over a ton each. One day we were at his house putting a race car on a trailer and I heard a clomp behind me. I turned around and one of the big ones was about 5 feet away and seemed curious about what we were doing. I told the owner as the bulls were on the wrong side of the fence. His eyes got wide and he told me and my father to do what he did and stay calm. He moved toward to bull slowly and started flapping his arms like a bird. The bull just turned around and went back into the open gate it came out of. No shots fired.

You just have to be smarter than the animal you are trying to corral. I this case I think the calf was the smartest thing on the scene.

This video was final proof to me that cops are a stupid species.

I don't like the idea of the cops having predator drones........but you gotta, admit, if they did have a predator drone, that would have been a much more impressive video.

I only know what I saw on the video, not what happened before, but it sure seemed inappropriate and excessive to shoot the steer, just sayin'. Those Canadians sure get riled up when they have pistols!!

There can't possibly be that many farms around there that the calf would belong to. Or at least a farmer who is willing to help get the cow contained. Am I wrong on that?

They should have maced and clubbed the calf with their night sticks like they do with protesters.

No Miranda warning either by the looks of it.

Wouldn't a loud and hearty "yeehaw" or "gitnow!" have done the same thing? That highway looked light on traffic. They did not need to shoot Bessie. On a high speed super highway? Yea maybe.
