MAC guys, what's this powerbook worth?
My wife is getting rid of one of hers and getting a new one. I guess looking for a "sell in a couple days price" not a "squeeze every nickel out of it price". It's prob ~3 years old I guess, nothing at all wrong with the machine. Thanks in advance guys.

My boss is looking for one so if you decide on a price and want to PM me I will pass it along and maybe get it gone for ya

I'll let you know, not my call though. Her boss just wants to know what ballpark range it will go for before they decide on which unit they will get her next.

In short, its worth plenty. As long as its not physically abused, macs retain their value much more then other laptops. I just bought a used mac book pro from amazon from an individual seller and it has been great. Amazon seemed the perfect avenue compared to Craiglist (too risky) and Ebay (untrusted). Here are some links to see what they are going for.http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_scat_541966_ln?rh=n%3A541966%2Ck%3Amacbo ok+pro+17&keywords=macbook+pro+17&ie=UTF8&qid=1325 345260&scn=541966&h=b579317908cffea45da6c6d30b84c7 13db9fe863

You can go to the following site and locate the model as well well review recent eBay listings. As was mentioned, Mac hardware retains its value...sort of like our P-cars!

I sold one just like that about 6-8 months ago on eBay and got around $800 for it. I'm guessing you could get around $650-$700 today.

Wish I could afford that now, I'm looking at $500 iMacs for my grandfather. The big hit of Christmas was showing him all the WWII footage on YouTube (we looked stuff up for 2 hours) and he needs to keep up with email from the Knights of Columbus and his church. Right now a neighbor prints out email once a day and puts it in his mailbox. At 88, he's speeding up, not slowing down. :)

There are plenty of $500 computers, (or less), for grandpa to check his email and watch YouTube videos. They're a dime a dozen.
This MacBook pro 17" was a $2700 laptop when new. I have one. I can't believe the way that consumer stuff depreciates. |
This site is pretty good for estimations.

Mine is actually an old 2005 G4 PowerBook 17", the very last one w/ high res screen. It was close to $3g new. It's an awesome home computer, a little large for lugging around.
Everyone is going lighter and lighter, air books and iPads everywhere. Since I got an iPhone, I use my (smaller 13") MacBook a lot less. |
