Spot on with that observation! I will say that prepping EVERY week for 3 1/2 years is starting to wear on me. If I can somehow win the points championship this year, I might quit while on top (or at least quit the weekly attendance to stay in the points race). It is still fun, but also very stressful worrying about getting wrecked and dropping a bunch of points.

I have flown my airplane only a couple hours the last two years, my 911 needs some attention, my MX bike got rode twice last summer and now I have a boat to work on and enjoy.

Started 6th in heat race.... bounced around like pinball but ended up winning heat. Drew the #1 start position for A-main and finished 2nd. Lots of body work this week

Worst luck of the season Saturday night.... Track was wet at the bottom. I drew a 163 out of 175. Started 10th (last) in a stacked heat behind two of the fastest cars and ended up 3rd. Started A-main 11th and got spun in turn 4 by car #8 midway through race putting me in last place. Got back up to 9th place finish. This dropped me 20 points compared to closest guy in points. Now 12 points back in second with only 4 weeks left in the season. Short of a miracle, I likely will not regain the lead. Such is life.

for third week in a row I drew a bad number and ended up starting 6th in another stacked heat. Finished 4th on a wet bottomed track. Started A-main all the way back in 15th. Involved in nasty high speed multi-car crash on front straight. Car hit me in the passenger door area which spun me and backed me into the concrete wall HARD. Vison went funky for a couple seconds then I restarted car and made my way back up to finish 7th in a heavily damaged race car..... Spent the remainder of the holiday weekend cutting, grinding and welding (all while suffering a likely mild concussion). Rear frame was twisted and bent down about 30 degrees, bumper was smashed, 70 pounds of ballast weights were missing, right side door area was shredded. Two points races left but unless the points leader has a complete meltdown, I am likely gonna end up second.

Why does it not surprise me that you are doing this activity with the same passion and intensity that you have brought to everything else you do. . .you went from buying the car to winning heats in a couple of short years. . . the randomness of dirt as a racing surface will make a deterministic view of season prospects achievable only with a large number of trials, which just means more time, but I expect you to progress to the top with more time invested.

I am fascinated by the line, by the throttle application, by the turn in point. What I would really like to see would be a G-plot with a couple of variables like throttle position, brake on/off.

Don't know if data acquisition is allowed in the class but my guess is that an iPhone in a lexan box could get you all of this... I think the plots would be VERY different in shape than what we're used to in road racing.

PLEASE see a neurologist if you think you really had a concussion, and of course replace your helmet. We need you.

The question remains: Is your wife happy?

304065 is right, btw...there is no such beast as a mild concussion.

I really enjoy the updates on your racing, Tim: The videos are great.

And so it begins again.... First race of the season is this Saturday. Because of my boat project I put off prepping race car until yesterday. Basically checked but and bolts, lubed chassis and started prepping tires. Threw my back out the process. Gonna be long week getting everything ready by Saturday. Last race of the year was not for points so I made a significant change in my set-up. Cranked in a bunch of rounds on my left rear and it definitely liked it. Gonna crank in a couple more for first race and hopefully I can get just that little bit better to consistently give the #70 a run for the championship this year. I am surely the only top 5 guy running the same body for now 3 years. Lol

How not to properly prep for race season.

Won my first heat race of the season... Started feature on the pole and then proceeded to spin in front of the field going into turn 1 (car was tight going in so I stabbed brake to kick rear end out but went too hard). Ripped off half of front bumper and complete right fender. They had us do a complete re-start after the first turn pile up (which I caused). Car was way too tight and I lost ground and fought it the whole race and ended up 5th.

My preseason suspension adjustment went too far... gonna take out some turns out of the left rear and hopefully get the cars handling back.

Hey, Tim

Doesn't look too bad, that'll buff out with a little spare money and some elbow grease applied to the affected area. Congratulations on your heat win! I think you're in danger of becoming The Man at your local bullring!!!

Does your track spin the roulette wheel to determine PP or something like that? I would've thought you'd have to start 5th or so after winning the heat....

They try to put about 20 cars in the A main feature. If there are 5 heat races with 10 cars each, the top 4 make the A-main. Then they typically do a redraw for the top 2 in each heat to fill the first 10 spots. After that they fill 3rd place guys then 4th place guys. I got lucky and drew the #1 for this race. We race every Saturday from the end of April until the end of September. To be in the running for the points championship one needs to make every A-main. Last two years I made every A-main and finished 3rd two years ago and 2nd last year. To make every A-main, your car has to work every night and you have to be a bit lucky to avoid wrecks when starting in the back of a heat race.
The heat race lineups are determined by a pill draw at the start of the night.... Sometimes you end up starting at the back in a stacked heat and it can be stressful.
