More fretless bass porn..

The Takamine fretted bass I bought had a rubber neck, so I returned it for a credit. So I found this Michael Kelly fretless 4 string that scratched my itch on C list. I was nervous about the deal,(it's Clist) but he shipped it to me as agreed and it arrived today...just for my birthday. It plays really nice, has no speed bumps, and is absolutely stunning in appearance. Tons of pearl and abalone inlays. Happy Birthday To Me!

It will need some tweeking. but for now it plays good. It has a set of Thomastick flat wound nylon core strings on it that sound and feel awesome.

Beautiful! I used to admire those at the NAMM shows. I loved those and the Godins and Brian Moore guitars.

Be interesting to compare with flats. I really like the La Bella black nylons that are on my Rob Allen. You may end up with a ton of low end thump that you'll need to eq. Should be a fun bass though and very pretty - I like the inlay on the back. Another couple months of not smoking and I've got an awesome Fodera I can sell you

Tone, practice and muscle memory. It's really easier than you think. Actually faster and easier. The Fender has cheater lines where the frets would be, and this one has dots that are hidden under the E string. They do no good really as you can't see them looking down.

Are you still talking about bass?

Same as with a stand-up bass or a violin. Kinesthetic sense/muscle memory and, as mentioned above, a lot of practice.

Looks good, Dave!
Happy Birthday, again!

Best

OK, You, and Nostatic are BOTH killing me! I'm just looking for a cheap, used Warwick fretless to make the transition to an unlined neck. But NOOOOOO..... you guys go all out with the good stuff!

I had a Warwick unlined Corvette back in the mid 90's. Was a nice bass. I prefer unlined as I find it less confusing.
