Return of the Turbo Mustang?

Ford Mustang likely to get EcoBoost - Autoweek

What??? More Mustang talk on a PORSCHE board??? We need to talk more about well set up 944's!

This has been discussed on various Mustang boards for quite some time. Seems to be a natural. The feedback from F-150 owners with the ecoboost V-6 has been very favorable. Gobs of power with good highway mileage.

Right. I thought they already offered the turbo V6 in the Mustang. They have some great engines out there now.

The current Mustang v-6 is naturally aspirated. Still, 305 horsepower...

And 30+mpg highway. Much better than the old 4.0L V6 lump.

Gotta confess, I'm not as keen on turbos or blowers as many are. Shorter engine life, especially in the valve train, despite today's better machining, etc.

Yes, every million-mile eighteen wheeler out there has removed the turbocharger

And every 300K mile Mercedes turbodiesel has too

And the 275K mile 2001 VW Passat 1.8T in my stable only LOOKS (and acts) like it has the turbo -- the impellers were removed from the scrolls in the interest of long life

The first 930's had valve trains fail at around 40,000 miles...diesels are also another matter.

Hey, nothing wrong with turbos or blowers if that's what you want...I just choose not to. But I do reserve the right to change my mind. ;)

Yes, what happened THIRTY FIVE years ago should certainly dictate your actions today

If anything, diesels should have more valvetrain wear, turbo or not.

Gasoline powered turbos, if engineered as forced-fed from the start, should live as long as a naturally aspirated gasoline motor. They're more complicated, and there's more to go wrong (more parts), but their life span is no more or less.
