So does that mean that I am exempted from the speed limits as well? The jet I fly for a living lands at 160 mph and I am "professionally trained and certified to operate the vehicle at these speeds" so I want to do like they do!!!

Totatally agree Tim but it aint gonna happen. The cops have no laws or rules until they are caught on videotape doing something silly.

I was on a two lane street yesterday with a painted center median that accommodated left turn lanes at intersections. I'm looking at a cop car coming up behind a car that is coming opposite me. All of a sudden the cop hits the gas, I can hear the drone out of the air cleaner, and moves over into the median blowing through a left turn lane, kicking up a cloud of dust and debris as he roars down the center of the street.

No lights, nothing.

I totally respect what the cops ask people to do in normal..It gets annoying when they get an "attitude" even when you're being respectful, though.

if you treat everyone like a convict..
why be surprised if your viewed as just another douche LEO..

lousy interaction skills,
worse public relations..

It is a vicious circle, for sure.

and then there is silverwhaletail, the paragon of polite restraint, providing a rational level of discourse on any subject. all you cop haters just need to pipe down and do what you are told. then things would be peaceful.

i was sitting at a stoplight yesterday here in town. the left turn arrow turned green, i waited a good 3 seconds while it was green before i started going. i always check cross traffic and sure enough, an LA County cop car came BARRELING through the intersection doing at least 60. No lights on or anything. he was going so fast, he bottomed out his suspension, sparks flying, after launching through the intersection. had i not been a little slow on the turn, and not checked traffic, i probably would have been t-boned by him.

i caught up to him about 3 blocks later....saw him pulling into the drivethrough at mcdonalds.

i used to have a coworker who was an ex-state trooper. whenever he would see a cop doing something ridiculous in a car, he would call the police station and report a stolen cop car. when asked what he was talking about....he would reply "well, i can't believe that a police officer would speed, change lanes erractically without signalling, and drive like that. it must have been somebody who stole the car."

Them that wears the (stinking) badges and carries the guns makes the rules.

What's this "New law" that states something of the sort, that you cant videotape cops? Anyone ever been on a ride along with a cop? Pretty interesting... Tim

I was thinking the same thing yesterday--though not with any anger.

I was following an unmarked police car down the street. This is a big boulevard, with 7 lanes. The LEO was driving down the "fast lane" with his left side tires riding a little over the yellow line, which demarcates the center turn median. Not a big deal. It's just a bit of paint. There certainly was no danger to anything like that.

But I wondered if he would have taken any notice if our positions were reversed, and it were I in front of him skimming my tires along the center median. Failure to keep control of a vehicle, or to drive within marked lanes, or probable cause for a roadside sobriety check or impromptu car search. Fortunately, I can keep my car between the lines, so it's a moot point.

What happened to the sayin g; "what's good for the goose is good for the gander"? Tim

around here and in vancouver i've seen them put on their lights like they are in hot pursuit only to get thru a red light then the lights go off.. wtf's with that?

Noah930 01-11-2012 05:04 PM

I used to see that regularly when I lived in Boston, but haven't really seen it here in LA.

quicksix 01-11-2012 05:11 PM

Lot of times you will see them light up,take off and then they get a code 4 or cancel, sometimes because of a closer unit.Used to happen on the ambulance a lot.

Flieger 01-11-2012 05:18 PM

Noah, you ever see how fast the motorcycle cops rip up Mulholland by Rockstore?

Where were they when I had a group of 3 heroin addicts breaking into my cars after they broke into my neighbors cars? How incompetent were they to set up a 1 square mile perimeter 20 minutes after they show up and the perps ran on foot after I chased them down? Why was I the one to capture and bring to justice the crack heads while the cops were sitting on their thumbs 1 mile away with their reds and blues flashing?

Because they are a revenue generating source and a clean up crew all wrapped in one.

Regrettably that's true. Meanwhile they've lost the support and respect of the community they serve. I still remember my first encounter with a cop. I was about 17. It wasn't a positive one... :(

Yea, I've seen dozens of cops talking on their cell phones, parked behind one of the casinos stealing their wireless, and typing on their lap top while driving. Pretty pathetic but what I expect from that group. This weekend I was pulled over for a lane change and going straight while in a left turn lane. Problem was I was in the left turn/go straight lane. When I explained this to Mr Law, he did "let me off" really? no ***** I didn't do anything wrong! Try solving a crime now little copper...

Speedy, I feel ya brother... I do most of my own police work for 12 car washes...I could write a book on episodes I've ha with people breaking into machines and even being sprayed in the face by a cusomer with tire and wheel cleaner.. Hiis white walls didnt come clean after going thru tunnel. I told him he needed steel wool, he went to his trunk and got a bottle of cleaner and sprayed me right in the face twice. Get this, he was a retired cop... I am serious. Tim:eek:
