I've actually thought about converting a 911, you know. Kennedy Engineering makes adapter plates to mount a VW diesel (or any vw i4) to a 915 or g50 transmission. They are pretty much already set up for a two-tank veggie system... use the oil tank for diesel, and the main fuel tank for veggie oil. PLUS, the 964 c4 awd system runs completely independently of the engine electronics... so if you swapped the engine you'd still have the awd. I think a veggie diesel 964 c4 could make a pretty cool commuter car. Oh yeah, I've thought about it!

Jake, I knew this would be in your mind. Iadmit I had similar thoughts (but not in technicolor detail).
The new TDi might have enough to make it go, but if a fellow could get his hands on the Audi V6 TDi, it could be interesting. :D

I agree: stock ride height is best, not only for inclement weather, but also for the occasional pot hole or gravel track into the new development you will eventually get involved in.

Great idea of doing this as a road trip with your Dad.
Play safe!

Best
Les

When I clicked on this thread, I expected to see an outback wagon or something like that. Thank you Jake for not letting us down. Great choice. I agree , you deserve it, enjoy it. You are now my favorite real estate broker!

thanks again folks!

Hey, does anyone know offhand if I need a particular type of roof rack for the 964? I have to haul back a second set of wheels + tires, and I've seen pics of 911's with tires on a roof rack. I think Jack Olson's BB2, actually. Any thoughts, or am I gonna have to start going to the technical forums now??

Well done, congrats! You'll find getting the kiddos in and out of coupe can be challenging at first, but once you get a system down it works quite well.
I hoping for a 964 (or a 993) as well.

Enjoy...and happy birthday.

Nice! I loved my 964. It was great after owning an SC to have good heat, AC and a comfortable ride as the 911 was our only car.

I'm hoping to get another one soon or possibly try out a Carrera as a happy middle to an SC/964.

Enjoy your time in NYC, let me know what your interests are and I could suggest some things to do or check out.

Take lots of pictures...

btw who did the PPI ?

:)

Great choice...I think that my 1994 964 Targa was the best car I ever owned.

Love the look. Well done.

I was going to guess used Cayenne...AWD, etc...but looks like a better choice.
Very nice looking car.

Advanced Automotive in New Windsor did the PPI yesterday. Car checked out really well. The owner was supposed to drop off the car on Tuesday, but got cold feet at the last minute... he really loves the car and was really torn about selling it. I had a couple cars lined up in case this one fell through, but I was REALLY glad when he finally dropped off the car for the PPI on Wednesday

No big plans are set for NYC yet, we're arriving thursday afternoon, picking up the car and going for supper with the current owner. Then we have all day Friday and Saturday in NYC, staying at the Holiday In Midtown 57th. One thing my dad and I want to check out is Gullwing Motors, they always seem to have an ecclectic mix of old cars in various states. Other than that we are wide open to suggestions!

If you want to actually sleep at night, I'd recommend that you move to a hotel on the Upper East Side, or Upper West Side. You're too close to the (all-) night life. ;)

Yeah, I figured. That's OK though, being central to everything will work well for us, and it was under $150/night including parking. Not gonna change it now... one of my new year's resolutions is to me more decisive and stop overanalysing and second-guessing every decision. Hard habits to make & break!

In midtown he should sleep fine, unless his room is on the ground floor(?) Maybe you're thinking of Times Square?

Try to see "The Book of Mormon". Go on craigslist and maybe get lucky with some last minute tickets for a reasonable price. It's the best thing on Broadway in ages and tickets will be unobtanium once Romney locks-up the Republican nomination. :)

Yeah, I was thinking he was closer to Times Square. Nowadays, my wife and I pretty much stay on the Upper East/West Sides when we're in NYC.

Have a great time Jake, and enjoy that 964!

Check for bedbugs. Seriously. NYC has had an outbreak over the last few years. We stayed at a pretty nice place a year and a half ago which had them. Unfortunately we didn't discover this until well into the trip, and didn't know how clingy the little bastards are. We brought them home with us and ended up having to have the whole house fumigated. Had to empty the house - it was as much work as moving.

But other than that, NYC is an awesome place, no matter what you're into. You guys will have a great time!

I'm looking at getting a Latent used car

Rufblackbird 01-13-2012 02:32 PM
