Small business VOIP type system

We're finally moving out of our home offices due to the increase in our manufacturing.

We should have 4 desks in the office, a small conference room, and a phone for the shop. I'm thinking the CISCO type VOIP type phones. Anyone have good information on these?

Our internet access will be mostly be highspeed from the Cable company. I will also be installing a single AT&T line which will have a backup lowspeed DSL line.

I see our options as:

Some sort of VOIP using CISCO or equal equipment
Cable Company, which has similar equipment
Open to other suggestions

I need the phones to be able to pickup any line. I also want a universal call in phone number. Voice mail, 3 way, etc.

Suggestions?

We use 8X8 for VOIP in our 3 person office and really like them.
Many cool features.

Appia Communications - Business VoIP, MPLS Networking, Video and Audio Conferencing, and Hosted Exchange

Been happy with them for years in very demanding environments. Good support and responsive people.

OK, I think I've settled on hosted VOIP. I'm looking at 8x8 and Vocalocity, and to see if there are any local guys in Houston.

Based on our experience I can say that you absolutely should not get anything from Paetec.

I've talked to 4 groups so far, and 8x8 looks the best so far. The thing that is selling 8x8 is the VOIP app for Android/iPhone. The local Houston guy sound like he knows his stuff, and we grew up in a similar time fram, but he's no sales guy...

Just remember with 8x8 you're a small fish in a big pond.

I've always found that as a small business owner, I liked being in smaller ponds. There might be more costs, and less features, but the support was there when needed.
