You might try the regional area. I know that there are lots of people down there.

Where are you staying? Even if it's out by the airport, it's simple enough to take the light rail into downtown. Lots of restaurants/bars you can walk to in that area, or by Northwest 23rd.

I am here. Wetter than all heck. Hanging out in bed as I got rear-ended today on the way to work. What would I do solo in Portland?

1) Powells books. They have books on anything you can imagine. Lots of smelly hipsters as well.
2) Great beer. Just walk down most streets and you can find a brew pub.
3) Spend money? No sales tax.
4) Not really my deal but word is, Portland has more strip clubs per capita than anywhere else. There is even a vegan strip club. Not sure if the women are skinny / healthy or what. Just sayin.
5) Live music. Portland has great blues and Jazz. Jimmie Macs is usually a good bet. Lots of other spots as well.
6) Dinner? I like Ginos. It is Italian and in Sellwood. Loud. Informal. Great food. Supposed to be where the chef's eat on their night off.
7) Pinot Noir? We grow lots. Not my favorite varietal but lots of folks dig it.

Good luck. Just a few thoughts.

I'm flying in tomorrow... where are you staying?

Going to take the train to Skidmore fountain and hit a few pubs until the wife gets off work. If beer isn't your thing go to stumptown roaster coffee shop.

If you like a Rubin take the train down to the Goose Hollow pub (or Inn), train stops right in front of the place.

I'm at the Embassy Suites right next to the airport, but am leaving out tomorrow at 6:00 to Seattle, then to Wichita.. A lot of people here are saying that Salty's is the best place around here, so might hit that up.

We have eaten at Salty's often as that is the preferred place of our good Portland friends.

All seafood. All good. But nothing that will knock your socks off—with the possible exception of the Cioppino.

Can be very hard to get into. Almost always a wait. I think it's right at the end of the runway, as there are planes constantly overhead. Nice view of the river though.

I ate at Salty's once. Maybe twice. Over a decade ago. Classic case of good location and a reputation from 50 years ago. I wouldn't go today unless someone else was buying. Then, I would try to sway them away.

Portland is a FOOD MECCA. Cheap. Eclectic. Exciting. Salty's is a blue-hair standard.

Sorry.

Yes. That's what I tried to say politely.

But they do do a good Cioppino!

Nobody ever listens when I suggest the steak at Acropolis. It's dirt cheap (the owner owns a ranch, from what i understand) and the view is excellent.
