2700 miles in a vintage travel trailer
I just got back from two weeks in Florida. We stayed in Three state parks while we were down there. 2 days at Stephen Foster, 7 at Myakka river, and 4 at Hillsborough River. All the Parks were very nice and had large sites. Myakka river had full hookups, the others had water and electric. The weather was nice, mostly mid 70's. We also did a few side trips to Ft. Meyers and Sarasota while we were at Myakka River, since they were close. This is the longest vacation my wife and I have ever had, and only our third in the trailer.
So in the last 6 months we have taken the trailer to Indiana Dunes at Lake Michigan, Merrimac State Park in MO. and this trip down to Florida. We have a trip planned in March to Savannah. So far everything has worked fine, of coarse we learn a few things with each trip. We averaged 13.6 mpg in the 2006 Dodge diesel while pulling the trailer. The truck had no problem with the trailer, but we did scrape pulling into a gas station somewhere. I dont know if it was the hitch or the bumper, the trailer does sit pretty low. I may raise is some to give it a little more clearance. The trailer is a 1964 Streamline, its about 27' long.

Awesome! I bet you got all kinds of attention on the road, and at the campsite. Compared to modern travel trailers, what vintage or antique trailers lack in space and some amenities, they more than make up for in character, and visual appeal. In some cases too, that lack of extra space also equals less weight.
One of these days, my wife, and I will enjoy our 33' Spartan. It's turning into a lengthy restoration though. The more I do, the more detail oriented I get with it.

It was really doing great till I started hand calculating it out. The truck computer in my Dodge reads about 5 mpg high. I wonder how many of those guys claiming to get 25mpg in these full size diesel trucks are just going by the gage and not really calculating it out. I get around 18mpg just running around and have gotten 20-21 on the highway if I watch my speed. I got 15 on one tank going down, but I may have had some wind helping, I was also pretty much going 70, I could get better down around 60.

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout, right thur!
![]() King of the campsite. Couldn't be a finer looking rig in the whole compound. 27 feet of riveted al-clad excellence, and I bet it pulls along like a dream too. I'm getting motivated to get back to working on mine when all my side-work is finished. Thank you for sharing, dmc.
