Paul, we are not hunters unfortunately.....ok, Bodi is a spoiled family pet but....as nostatic said, Vizslas are trully amazing dogs.....as far as cold weather is concerned, as you can see, their coat is fairly short so they would have to be covered up.

For more info you can check out our breeder(s) Jill Brennan/Carla Slabaugh's website:

Sokoldalu Versatile Champion Vizslas

Cheers and all the best in your search for your next buddy!

Thanks, Alex. I will call them and learn more. Water is the issue here...and I do have enough space. Great name, Bodi.

Thanks again.

Alex,

Those are simply beautiful dogs...what a pair.

Are they suitable for cold weather retrieving? The problem in Maryland is that our hunting season for water fowl are in late fall, winter. It get chilly!

Again, what a pair.

maybe you need a Chessie?

Like a Golden or Lab, they are willing to learn (retrieving) -- and the Chessie is said to be so hard-headedly focused on getting that bird it will not be dissuaded by anything else.

Paul...you mentioned water!?! Bodi (and all Vizslas) just love to swim. Like the Portuguese Water dog, Vizslas have webbed feet.

One other neat thing I should mention is that they are one of the few breeds that will actually clean and groom itself...much like a cat! Cool! About 2 or 3 times a day, Bodi will jump up on "his" couch....I told you he was spoiled!...and spend about 5 to 10 minutes actually cleaning his paws and lower legs!

Bodi's registered name is actually Beauregard "Bo" Duke... aka...Bo Duke, the Dukes of Hazzard. Our breeder wanted her then litter to be named after "famous car/hot rod celebrities" so we chose Bo Duke and his General Lee, of course!

I'm sorry if I'm rambling on like a "proud parent" but...I guess in a way I am!

Chesapeake's are often difficult dogs...my wife says no way since she had a few growing up. They can be very distant, often aggressive. I'm looking at a Lab/Chessie mix, however.

I am aware than this all sounds trifling in the real world, but I saved enough dogs, rescued and placed enough dogs over the last 20 years to be selfish on this one.

My last Lab was truly a wonderful presence...I'm looking to try again, come what may.

Please, Alex...you should be. There is one thing on PP that we all agree on: Dogs.

The net has widened

yes, I've heard the same thing re Chessies.

Labs are great dogs - nearly as good as Goldens....

Overall, Labradors are the finest dogs. Their moods range from "extremely happy" to "nearly exploding with joy." They are the only breed my service-dog training friend's program uses.

Yes, Lab puppies appear to have nearly the same IQ as a fence post. Fence posts are, technically, smarter. But they do grow up.

Vislas are amazing dogs.

My shadow is lab shaped.

Chessies are Like Lab's with turbo chargers. Lots of explosive power for hunting but can be very hard headed. If I hunted ducks every day and was 15 years younger & kenneled the dog outside I would have a Chessie
