Cessna?

Btw I used to work with an old AOG guy named Mike V. I think he was in that line of work in the '80s and '90s - at least the pictures he had looked about that old. Wish he'd move over here to SC, but I think he's happy where he is in Texas.

Can those wings take 150% wing flex in the negative G's direction as well?

We have never tested one that way, and I cannot imagine a situation where it would have to endure significant negative g loads. I believe any anticipated negative g loads are accounted for in the cyclic fatigue test, but at nowhere near 150%. I'm really not sure of any of that, though. I'm not even sure what the FAA regs say on that.

Jeff, we'll have to have a drink or two next time you are in Wellington, NZ. I'm guessing a godawful windy place like Wellington airport would give A380 wings a lot of grief. A good test place though. If the A380 can live in Wellington it can live anywhere.

Bill, the 380 wont fit into Wellington, but that weather would test any aircraft, for sure!!

How cool! How on earth do you get to lead so many drives Jeff, being "on call", or is it your stunt double we see on weekends?

Ps. Do big planes fly into Wellington NZ, I thought it was Auckland and Christchurch mainly.

Once on a largish plane flying in from Fiji, Auckland was fogged in and we flew around the volcano a couple times killing time then went on down to Wellington to refuel, then back to Auckland. Not a jumbo, but a large trans pacific route flight.
Nice sightseeing flight, Auckland airport was the only fog or clouds that we saw on the whole North Island.

Cheers Richard

My goof. I assumed tha A380 landed here as a buddy of mine flys them, but he must be doing that after he gets to Auckland or Christchurch.

Did I say godawful weather; this is today with waves getting blown over the end of the airport. Whereas yesterday it was perfectly still, glassy in fact, and I was out in this exact bit of water paddleboarding amoungst a pod of dolphins.

Reading that article it is a "good thing" that that Rolls Royce engine blew apart.

Oh, I've cut my travel down to a minimum in the last several years. I used to love it, but in the long run, a hanger is a hanger and an airplane is an airplane, no matter where it is. They all start to look the same. And, after seeing my share of real "garden spots", I've kind of had my fill. That, and laying in a hotel room halfway around the world, just flat ass dog sick having eaten or drank something I shouldn't have, just isn't much fun anymore.

That, I've spent the last five years putting together our basic "tool kit" for our new airplane, the 787, which just entered service. I've been the only guy doing that, for the whole damn airplane. It's been a lot of work. That's kind of served to keep me more of a home body than usual for this past five years. As the fleet grows, however, and we start running into the inevitable in-service issues that will arise, guess who gets to start traveling again? The guy who designed all the tools and equipment. Not looking forward to it...
