Joe Pa dead

Joe Paterno Dies at 85: Report - Tributes, Joe Paterno : People.com

Don Ro 01-21-2012 07:55 PM

Damn! So much for the "curable lung cancer" diagnosis.
Or did he die of pneumonia? :(

porsche4life 01-21-2012 07:56 PM

Not dead....

Wow, guess they can't wait for him to die. They have the article all written up and prematurely posted it.

speeder 01-21-2012 09:17 PM

Now when he does die, no one is going to believe it. Same with Paul McCartney.

5String43 01-21-2012 09:35 PM

Wait: Paul isn't dead? But I thought....

I would think at 85 "curable" is a very optimistic statement to make.

The real disease is old age and for most at 85 it's a terminal condition with time frame that is limited in years, not decades.
They can call it pneumonia, cancer, dementia, Alzheimer, whatever it is...
at 85 or more it should just be called "old age"

In the media's fight to be first they don't seem to care about accuracy.

bingo!

Bashing the "media" is a favorite pasttime here (particularly on PARF) but it appears a PSU student news website broke the story (the editor has since resigned) and it was spread mainly via twitter by twits.

The Penn State student news website Onward State posted an item saying legendary former football coach Joe Paterno had died.

Isn't that part of the media and don't those who hear/ see something have a responsibility to confirm the info, especially on some thing like this.

speeder 01-22-2012 06:13 AM

No, not really.

Normally when dumb Americans complain about "the media", they are referring to mass media. This website fits that definition better than a student newspaper.

Yep. Life is a sexually transmitted, 100% fatal condition.

9dreizig 01-22-2012 06:37 AM

Ok, he's officially "dead' again this morning

cairns 01-22-2012 06:44 AM

People Magazine certainly qualifies as the media. It's one heck of a lot more than Twitter, a college newsletter or PARF.

but what about Francisco Franco ?? Is he still dead ?

agrimmitt 01-22-2012 06:49 AM

Maybe gone, but never forgotten!

There is only sadness in "Happy Valley" today, the greatest football coach in Penn State history (and many feel all of college football) is gone. Long after all the current issue's that have dragged him face down through the mud. Joe Pa will be remember for all the good he did for so many students and everyone he touched! We will never see a coach or person like him again; so remember and speak well of this great man!

Alledgedly.

lonewolf 01-22-2012 07:34 AM

He's gone.
What a sad sad ending to his life.
RIP Joe.

azasadny 01-22-2012 07:35 AM

If people predict a death long enough, they'll eventually be right.
