Those look delicious!
but....I'm watching the caloric intake so I'll skip the cake part and just take some whiskey! |

This years recipe. Pecan Whisky Cake 6 eggs, separated 1 cup granulated sugar 1 1/2 cups butter 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 bag whole pecans 1 cup black dried currants (Soak in whisky for a few days) 1 cup black dried cherries (Soak in whisky for a few days) 1 cup black dried mix berries (Soak in whisky for a few days) 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 cup good whisky Line three loaf pans with aluminum foil. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F. Beat egg whites until they stand in soft peaks; beat in sugar. Without washing the beater, beat yolks until thick. Cream butter; beat in gradually the brown and white sugars. Add egg yolks and beat well. Mix flour, pecans and raisins. Sift together flour, baking powder and nutmeg. Add to the butter mixture. Add whiskey. Stir in the floured nuts and raisins. Fold in the whites. Fill the pans and bake about 2 hours. Of course testing the whisky is very important. Do this often.

Love it! We order ours from the Lynchburg General store. Soaked in Jack Daniels they call them "tipsy cakes".

Do you happen to be a Maker's Mark ambassador?

My mom made them for years and boy where they good. I may have to try your recipe. The price of pecans has gotten outrageous so I won't make many.

I'm on their emails and I did receive a bourbon ball Christmas gift from the distillery last year, but I don't have my name on a special barrel yet.
Last summer we took the family to Bardstown and Loretto KY for the bourbon tours. I thought Maker's Mark was like Disney Land in comparison to the other distilleries. BTW, I like Disney so I recommend a tour if you haven't done one.

Although the other thread about crappy music is undeniable, there are some real gems for the Christmas Season. Handel's "Messiah" is just one of them.
The wife and I attended our local Churches Messiah production this afternoon. Our Church has done this performance for over 100 years.

Jazz has its own classic. This is a great sound track for the TV special by the Vince Guaraldi Trio.

I thought y'all might appreciate this parody.
"The Night Before Christmas" (with apologies) 'Twas the night before Christmas and out in the shed Sat a tired old Triumph, its battery dead. Its fenders were rusted, the floorpan had holes The seats and the carpets had been eaten by voles The tires had dry-rot, the gas tank was leaking A turn of the wheel sent tie rods a-creaking. So I put on my coat with a weight on my heart, And went out to the shed to get it to start. The engine turned over--there arose such a clatter! I knew from the sound it was timing chain chatter. From under the dashboard there came a bright flash: The wiring harness had just turned to ash! "I've had it with Triumphs!" I finally swore "Enough is too much! I can't take any more!" When what to my red, teary eyes should appear But a little Englishman (hey, I might need a beer!) "Good Day," I heard, as he tapped on my shoulder. "I'm Joe Lucas" he said as the car continued to smolder. "This one can be saved; there's no reason to grieve. All you need is some faith--Man, you've got to believe! "A hammer! Some duct tape! Get me more tools! When you work on these cars, just make up the rules! We'll get her cranked over - no way that she'll stall (But stand over there with your back to the wall.)" A cough and a sputter, the cacophony stunning-- I couldn't believe it! The damn thing was running! The ghost winked at me and said, kicking a tire, "Whatever you do, DO NOT TOUCH THIS WIRE!" The old man then vanished amid sneezes and farts But when the smoke cleared he had left me some parts. So I opened the shed door and let the top down Put pedal to metal and went out on the town. And I thought to myself as I missed second gear Merry Christmas to All and a Happy New Year!

Funny, I changed it from Triumph to MG, and it still worked...
