I went into a local grocery store to buy some coffee. I saw the price listed on the shelf and handed the cashier cash. They asked if I had their store discount card. I told them I did not. They rang up the sale and handed me my change and I noticed the price was a LOT higher than the shelf price. They claimed the price on the shelf was the discount card price. I told them to give me my money back and I will go to a store that treat me fairly. The manager came over and said he needed my name, address and phone number to refund my cash. I said OK my name is Mr. Cash. I live at 123 Main Street Anytown USA. The manager said he need my real address and I insisted that was my address. They wanted to see my ID and I explained ID in not required to buy coffee with US legal tender cash money. They finally relented and gave me back my money. I went across the street to a Walgreen's and bought the same coffee for less than the discount price at that grocery store.
I almost filed a complaint with the State. The price on the shelf is supposed to be the price of the product. Bait & switch is illegal. |

In my town, people hate it so bad that they have brow beaten Safeway and Albertson's into submission on this - the cashiers will ask for the discount card, if you don't have one they will say "oh no problem, we'll give you the discount price anyway" - I asked why and was told they got too many complaints locally. |

They also have a loyalty card on a string and will scan that if you don't have one. |

I'm all for the rewards cards, as long as they are optional. Things like that are an excellent market research tool for the company, and if it saves me a few bucks.... |
A long time ago I set the default homepage on Firefox and Safari to Google because that's often where I would go as soon as I logged on. A few months ago I noticed that my hard drive would run for about 2 -3 minutes every time I logged on and the browser ran slow for a while.
I tried an experiment this morning turned the auto-Google off. The hard drive cycling stopped and I can open Firefox and go right to a bookmark without the slow performance. A question. If I start Google to check my Gmail or use the search engine does it continue to operate in the background if I close the Google window in my browser? |

I am not sure where the ads are on Google you are all talking about. I use it as a search engine but I see no special ads.
Now in Youtube, they have an "Extreme Cavity Damage" shotgun shell video all ready for me to view and only a month ago I was reading about Charles Whitman and the tower sniper murders in Austin - 1966. I made several searches about how they took Whitman out - with a shotgun. Extreme Cavity Damage Shotgun Shells - YouTube |
