Anybody else work with a "loud talker"

A guy at work talks so abnormally loud that it's often hard to concentrate.
I can put headphones on, turn the volume to LOUD, rock out to the stones or zep or floyd and still the timber of his voice cuts thru.

He knows he does it, says he can't help it, but when he talks to pretty girls he totally talks normally.

Smart guy, knows he is, and seems to want everyone around him to know just how much he knows.

Arrgh.

Rant over.

There are those. I have a step daughter who is loud and speaks with a shrill. I've got one neighbor guy who is one of the nicest guys you can know, but is loud. He is a big, big man with a big deep voice. He can't help it. I can hear him a house away.

I work with me. Common complaint. I pay no mind anymore.

I am the person with the loud voice in "cube city." I NOW know it, and am trying to speak more quietly. I've even asked my fellow co-workers to help me with it (by mentioning I'm being loud!).

Perhaps you could move? Seems like the guy has too much of an ego to do anything about it!

I used to work with a guy like that. It was really bad if you were in an office with him talking. When he was with his wife, he was very quiet. He really didn't have any idea that he was being loud.

One of the great things about working from home.

When I worked in our DC office, I was in a section with four desks and three other women. One was not really a loud talker, but bantered endlessly without ever addressing anyone by name and expecting us all to be listening. Her husband is a Sec. Svc. sniper on presidential detail, so I was nice to her. Otherwise, I was happy when I moved.

Hey, at least you're trying. :)

I can't move, I work in a 'pod' and we need the team to be together. . . ..

I'm loud, I admit it.

We had a salesman at a former office. He was a retired Army officer that served many tours in Viet Nam. He had been around so much noise for so long he talked in a loud booming voice. We had to constantly ask him to tone it down. I can certainly imagine if he was barking orders to troupes they could hear him.

My neighborhood tractor guy is like that, plus he's a total hick and always has a beer in his hand like Julian from the Trailer Park Boys with his rye and coke.
YEP YEP...WELL YOU KNOW....YEEEEP!

Thing is he's the best at what he does and the price is right.

Some people are just loud - I can deal with that.
Some people like to talk loudly because they think they're impressing everybody around them - these I could do without.

Yeah I hate that too.

My friend Clark talks really loud on the phone so I hold the headset away from my ear. There's a contractor in town (tile) and when he's on the job you can hear him almost a block away.

I often tell someone to keep their voice down - politely. I say it in a hushed tone to further get the message across. It works. :p

Yes, a young engineer. Booming loud.

Occasionally I'll use this line on him (in a tone that would be appropriate at a preschool):
"remember how we talked about using our indoor voice?"
