IT brain trust, need help with xp

Help, I want to get to the start up file to make some changes, but can not
find it. I am not talking about the start up icon in Control Panel, but the actual
start up file, I use to know where it was in Win 95, 98, 98SE and NT4.0 world
I just can not find it in XP or Vista. I am retired now but was a Sys Admin up to
2002, more of a Solaris guy but also had my MCSE, back in the day. Any help
would be appreciated.

What do you mean by "start up file"? boot.ini, autoexec.bat, registry entries, or C:\Documents and Settings\[All Users or logging in user]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup?

Run msconfig is what I needed, thanks Neil that got me to the window that I am
used to, did the trick. I wanted to stop some third party S/W from starting up at
bootup, they were sucking up memory and are not needed anymore as this machine
will not be on the internet anymore. Will be used for Garmin Blue Chart, on the boat
only. Thanks again guys, was a major brain fart on my part. Enjoy whats left to the
weekend, I have Daytona 24hrs on as I type its good to have some racing on again.
I am burned out on football.

ID10T: Only one user on the laptop now, and that user is the administrator.
\startmenu\programs\startup got me to a grayed out ( empty )
used to be able to get to startup by going to programs\accesories\system tools\system information\system environment\startup, that gets me nothing now I guess MS attempts to
make their OS more secure changed a lot of things since Nt 4.0
Thanks again.....
