Retired yesterday

51 years old. I hope I have a lot of time ahead of me. I have a ton of projects that need to get done.

J P Stein 01-28-2012 06:38 AM

You'll have time. Now ever day is Satrurday.:D

Joeaksa 01-28-2012 06:41 AM

Enjoy! Good luck with the projects!

crustychief 01-28-2012 06:43 AM

Congratulations Matt!

Jim Bremner 01-28-2012 06:55 AM

Wow!

Very impressed! Just keep yourself busy! I would like to spend time reading or helping 1st to 3rd graders.

All of the problems in the world go away when you hear young kids laugh!

And no, I'm not some sicko.

LakeCleElum 01-28-2012 06:59 AM

You'll love it. After a bit, you wonder how you ever had time to work. Did it at age 52 myself......enjoy many years ahead...

redstrosekNic 01-28-2012 07:01 AM

Congrats!

I homeschool my kids (12 and 10)

Oh Haha 01-28-2012 07:27 AM

Congrats!!! Enjoy every day and find something you love to do.

I'm retired not by choice. I like to get in a day or so now and then. Hard to cut the cord completely. I also have a ton of projects to do. If I really wanted to do them, working would not have prevented that.

In fact, the busier I was with work, the more I got done at home.

Can you look up an old GF for me? Her Dadz is a Sergeant of Police or something...Kathe Bayramshian....or something like that...

azasadny 01-28-2012 08:54 AM

Congratulations!

You will learn the art of crowd avoidance. Do your fun things out on weekdays, avoiding the weekend crowds. :D

Rapewta 01-28-2012 09:54 AM

Good for you!
I did it at 58 (2008).
Get my first Social Security check in 10 days.
You probably already know this but have an extreme passion for some hobby that
drives you to get up early everyday.
I have a classic rock band and year round softball leauges among other interests.
I read a lot.
Went through most of Steinbeck's books the first few months. You earned it, so now enjoy.

dmcummins 01-28-2012 10:01 AM

Good for you. I went in 2007 @ 50. Life is great when you can do what you want. There still is not enough time in the day, but its all yours.

A very good point, Paul. It has made my free time much more enjoyable.

Lake Cle Elum makes a good point as well. You will wonder how you ever had time to work!

Another thought: You may quickly run out of projects around the house.......but your wife won't!

recycled sixtie 01-28-2012 10:08 AM

Congrats Matt. I highly recommend it. Have been retired 10 years and so far so good. Yes health is important. My wife and I walk about an hour a day. Also important is $$$, not so much about what u make, but what u spend.

Chocaholic 01-28-2012 10:13 AM

Wow. I'm a VP with a large medical company. Have always made a good buck and live well within my means, but couldn't even think about retiring. Will be 53 next month. Must be something I'm missing. Wife is a stay at home mom, three teens at home. College on the horizon, hobbies, bikes, cars, lake, etc. Easily 10 more years of hard labor for me. Enjoy. I'd probably go crazy within a month.

Racerbvd 01-28-2012 10:19 AM

Congrats, enjoy your freedom..
