Jaguar : E-Type Jaguar : E-Type | eBay

What do you guys think is a reasonable price?

As you know, on early 911S cars, price is all about condition. I'd think the same with E types. This appears to be a gorgeous example, restored the right way.

I'm thinking the seller will get close to what he's asking. If not, he'll keep it.

You know the old saying, "If you have to ask..."

Looks like a nice car and original except for the Webbers...

Would start at $45k and go up depending on the details.

I'm going to say $250,000.-

That car isn't even close to being original. There's a LOT more changed from spec than the Webers.

This car's long-term value is diminished, and he'll be lucky to get a third of his asking price, imho

JavaBrewer 01-28-2012 03:42 PM

Lucky for the seller there are not many prior E-type owners out there cause I doubt any of them would even click on that link.

Way over restored engine compartment, wrong fan, but it needs it, the carbs and too much polish on the bright work. Wrong plug wies and aero quip fittings

pwd72s 01-28-2012 04:57 PM

Looks like the changes are improvements to me...so, depends on how "purist" one is. Like I said, he'll get the money asked, or close to it...or he will keep it. Looks to me that this "ad" is just fishing for offers.

Laneco 01-28-2012 06:52 PM

Whereas it is not "factory" it is quite nicely done with the type of upgrades that make the car a better driver. Yes, yes, the purists will flap their hands like enraged butterflies at the non-stock items, but this car can and should be driven.

An E-type is bought on emotion. No one in their right mind would buy one as a logical decision. Well done as this car as (as a driver - more of a resto-rod), someone will step up nicely for it. I don't see it going for a 1/4 mil, but I'll bet a serious "second chance" offer in the 175 to 200 range would take it home.

I should probably note that I have a ridiculous weak spot for vintage Jaguars... If money were not an object, more than one E type (preferably a coupe) and a long-nose D would be in the expansive garage that would be built to house these treasures.

Agreed..all done nicely and as Hugh mentioned some upgrades are necessary to keep that engine alive.

Jaguar semi lightweights.....

Seems like the serial numbers for the factory semi-lightweight cars began with an "S". Also, I have never seen a picture of a lightweight or semi-lightweignt car with bumpers, bumper guards, etc. Someone woyuld have to show me iron clad provenance before I would accept this as a factory special.

Laneco 01-29-2012 05:57 AM

The seller mentions it is a "semi-lightweight." What I'm reading into that is it is a standard body that has had certain things lightened. Not sure how accurate that is, but that was my take on it.

Agreed that the factory lightweights were sans bumpers, etc.

My big problem here, is that I keep looking at the car and just drooling....

another one with "updates"....for your Sunday drooling pleasure

This is a beautiful car but not a 250K car. At best 100k if it was all original. There is no such animal as a semi-lightweight roadster. I would further say if your in the market for a e-type stick to as close to original examples as you can find.

No one in their right mind would ever buy any older British vehicle as a logical decision. I was speaking with a local Mercedes Master mechanic the other day about my SIII and he said: "Those trucks are composed almost entirely of rust and magic smoke, the source of which can never be determined."

Zeke 01-29-2012 07:59 AM

Cool car. Wider wheels and race goodies. Not 250K worth IMHO. I sort of follow these cars.

As for not buying one, to each his own. I have extensive experience with E types and they are great when properly sorted.

If you do a Google search, you will find several links refering to factory semi lightweight Etypes. Both coupes and roadsters. It appears that most were made in the 1963-64 timeframe with serials in the S87xxxx range.
