I watched it (Snake In The Monkey's Shadow) with my son when he around that same age. We were both in martial arts together, and used to love watching all the old kung fu movies.

not really a martial arts flick, but to be honest Kill Bill has some outstanding cutting of action to music by that rock band, Crazy Eights (?)
Kurosawa was the master, and Seven Samurai has to be the best. |

Kung Fu Hustle is one of my favorite films *period*. Much more than a martial arts film imho.

seen shaolin soccer yet? it's a toss up between the two for greatness. shaolin soccer is very entertaining. even "god of cookery" is very very good. steven rocks.

God of Cookery is awesome. I wasn't as thrilled with Shaolin Soccer, mostly because I'd seen KFH first, and that is amazing. Probably in my top 5 films of all time. I'm looking forward to whatever he does next. I think Chow is one of the most creative filmmakers around right now. KFH was just jaw-dropping...

I grew up in an age pre- Cartoon Network.
Every saturday was a ritual of sugar-laden cereal and network cartoons, which were immediately followed by either kung-fu movies or horror movies - depending on the network. I don't remember any of the titles from my childhood. The first film of this genre that I really, really remember was Shogun Assassin. Based on my enjoyment of this one, I also watched Samarai Assassin but it was a very different style. Another that I enjoyed was Seven Samarai. My favorite Bruce Lee films were Game of Death and Return of the Dragon

Big Trouble in Little China, campy, funny, classic.
Definitely not the Crazy 8's. That was a Portland, OR bar band from the late 1980's with which I am pretty familiar. Crazy 88's was the gang backing up Lucy Liu in Kill Bill, maybe what you are thinking. 5,6,7, 8s I thinkwas the band in the restaurant.

House of Flying Daggers. Really enjoyed the cinematography, and the story was interesting too.

Enter the Dragon is it for me at the moment, but I've been told that Ong Bak - Thai Warrior is excellent... and is 100% legit... in other words, there is no "wire work"...so, I'm looking forward to seeing it.
I saw Kung Fu Hustle in the theatre and loved it, but a word to those who haven't seen it; it's filled with sensationalized and exaggerated action on the level of comic book hero movies... with an extreme sense of humor... very entertaining, but not realistic in any way.
