bathroom ceiling what are the options ?

I am in the process of installing a 3rd bathroom in the basement. Most of the hard work is done I'm almost ready to finish the walls/ceiling. This bathroom is not large only 4' x 8' with 7'7" ceiling height to the bottom of the rafters. The walls I'm pretty sure I'm just going with traditional drywall and paint. But for the ceiling I really don't want to do drywall. I was thinking about wood like V groove pine or similiar. Might paint it or might just do polyurethane and leave natural color. The vanity is Oak with basic white marble type top and the toilet and shower are white also. The floor is vinyl with basic earthtone type colors it is basically neutral. Fixtures are all chrome. So what else is available for the DIYer for the ceiling ? And if it matters yes there is a ceiling exhaust fan/light combo to exhaust moisture when the shower is being used. I'm looking for something to nail onto the bottom of the rafters and the easier the better .

Your local Lowes/HD carries a bunch of different sheet goods that are rated as ground contact and come in 4X8X1/8. I used a wain's coating style for the knee wall in my bathroom.
Just a thought, I would make your ceiling as bright as possible since it is a low height. That will give it a much bigger feel.

Rick V has a good point on ceiling height. Anything other than a smooth white will make the low ceiling feel lower. I like crown molding, but in this case maybe.... It could trick the eye into thinking the ceiling is being "held up" there. I think the V-board will draw your attention up and reinforce the lower height. IMHO.

(not sure about this, so double check)...
AFAIK, cement board is a better substrate than traditional drywall, and greenboard isn't supposed to be used either. If the whole bathroom is done and the edges sealed with cement product it creates a sealed room with passive water exchange.

To deal with that, we tend to use narrow cabinets doors and skinner mirrors to pull the room taller. Long skinny scones also help. Your lighting will make all the difference in the world.

Went to H.D. today and found some white 7 " wide wainscote that is 8' long. It is tongue and groove and 3/8 thick I think I'm going to use that. Might even use a 3' tall for the lower walls to tie it all in.
