Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ( MBTI) - Personalities

Girlfriend and I have been riding rough lately (both strong, unyielding personalities), and a valued adviser suggested I take a personality test.

I already knew I would be introverted, but the test was valuable in learning about my traits. I test INTJ (Mastermind). I imagine several of you guys test like me (anal Porsche fanatic). Anyway, I started reading up on the personality types and there are so many facets I know understand. Past girlfriends and friends always pointed out my quirks. Some elements of me are related to my upbringing and life experience, but some parts of me are hard-coded.

If nothing else, I gained insight and am far more accepting of who I am.

My girlfriend tested ENTJ (taskmaster/field marshall). She likes to jump to action. I like to think things through and then act. It's no wonder I resent her when we're working together on projects. She waits till the last minute and then wants to move mountains in 30 minutes. I plead my case, throw up my hands, and eventually walk away.

What about you knuckleheads?

I have taken the test a couple times... and got different results...

Maybe I changed over time... maybe it changes with mood... maybe I'm schizophrenic...

NO I'M NOT! HE IS!!!

craigster59 02-03-2012 10:28 AM

I tested as a "ne'er do well/ all around Bon Vivant"...

masraum 02-03-2012 10:38 AM

My results usually have me as an INTJ or INTP (tested many times over the years).

About 15 years ago, my (then) employer invited all the management and sales people to take a similar test. At the end of the time allotted, we were invited to share our 'profile'

I offered to go first. My result was gridded in the upper right square of a 4x4 quadrant.

All the other people in the room placed their results in either the two left-hand columns or the bottom two rows.

Talk about standing out in a crowd!

Best

There is an interesting book just out, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain. I recommend it.

I never gave these tests much thought, either.

Does one's personality fit the result perfectly? Hail, no, but it does give insight into what goes on in our brain. Also, I'm more at ease with the sociopath personality I have.

For example, sometimes I need downtime. I want to be alone. I wanna pound the bike pedals until my body is spent. I want to soak inside headphones and hours of music. Ex-girlfriends could not understand my need. Now, I know some of it is hardwired. Why fight what your brain wants?
