Car inspection services for out-of-state rides
I am looking for a Ford Ranger pickup with a specific combination of transmission and body style. I'm having zero luck locally, so I've expanded my search outside of Memphis. While browsing an eBay listing of a truck in TX, I noticed a link to a company called inspectmyride.com. They send a guy to check out the potential buy and send pictures and a report on condition. For $120, I don't expect a lot.
Anyone know if these services are worth the bucks? I've bought a few vehicles online and know digital pictures can hide flaws and problems. I think a warm body could see things hidden in pictures. jurgen |

Where in TX is the vehicle?
I've had experience with one of those inspection services from the selling end. The buyer knew nothing about cars and the inspector made everything sound like a major issue, even lied about a couple of things, EX: claimed the car was going to need a new clutch even after I showed him the receipt for the one that had been installed within the year by a reputable shop and only had around 5k on it. I assumed the inspector was just covering his ass. I don't discount that he may also have been crapping on cars to get more than one paid inspection out of the buyer.

Truck is in San Antonio.
It's not good to hear about the bad experience. I bought a Lexus many years ago via eBay. The pictures never revealed it had been repainted and the dealer never disclosed it. That's what I'm trying to avoid. |

for the brief period I worked in sales at the local Lexus dealer, one of these "inspector" guys came to check out a SRX we had on the lot. It was a trade in, with just over 1k miles. Pretty much new. I was asked to help the guy, go on a drive with him. So I did, and although he took quite a few pics, he didn't even bother driving it. I drove our usual test drive route, got back, he took some more pictures, and that was it.
$120? Damn, sounds like a business I need to get into...

What was the name of that company that financed cars and did this for free? PorscheGAL posted it. They may only do high end stuff, though.

Now that I think about it, I paid a hundred some odd dollars for a PPI on my last 911. Seems like the inspection services for $120 are a joke compared to a real PPI.
Would a Ford dealer do a PPI? |

Dealerships definitely inspect their trade-ins, so I don't see why they wouldn't do it for a fee. The worst they could do is say no, right?
