Consider the Lever Gun
The shooters among you probably already know I'm somewhat of a lever gun (and single shot, and single action) kind of guy. Take a look at the little carbine Sheriff Wilson wields, and tell me you couldn't defend hearth and home with one. Much less have one hell of a good time at the range...

I love my Pre64 Winnie 94 and keep her sitting by my nightstand, ready to go.
She's reliable, accurate and I just love the look of a good lever. |
I've got 1 ; traded for it. It's never been shot. Was looking for a peep sight (williams, I think)and got off track. Might be time to take the wrapper off, no reason not to...

You have to get used to the empty's hitting you on the head.
He brings up sosme good points though. Jim |
I will probably purchase one, but I hope I never need one for the reasons he listed.

I've always wanted one of these but how reliable is a lever action? Does it jam?
|
whats NOT to like about them???????????????
never evar had feed issues with one. and i own lots of calibers of them. my secret??? chrome silicone mag tube springs and when i get a new one and replace oem mag tube spring i swab the living hell out of mag tube until swabs come clean and then lightly lubricate with a NON DUST COLLECTING LUBRICANT! also poo can the crappy oem mag tube PLASTIC follower for either stainless or aluminum. and whats best about the old north haven conn. marlins is wild west guns BIG LEVER LOOPS! faster cycling and perfect for big hands with gloves on when damn cold outside. also wild west guns bear proof extractors have been installed. after having numerous spoon designs get covered and i MEAN COVERED in mud snow dirt sand rain crap on a quad, you cannot ask for a more reliable action with minimum of no fuss no muss. always on front of quad for "snap shots" when hunting. and the 45/70 when in grizz country and the .44 when in blackie bear country. owner of: marlin .357 stainless marlin .44 stainless (2) marlin 45.70 stainless (3) winchester 1894-1994 comm. .30/.30s |
I recently voted with my wallet.
I wanted a .357 Mag but they were tough to find.... from any manufacture As it turned out I was (once again) too impatient. Now I've seen several FS. The .22 Mag (or LR) I did buy has not yet been fired and may go back on the market. |
Recently bought my first lever action as well. Got a new-ish Winchester 94AE Black Shadow (synthetic stock model) in .30-30 Win. Have not shot it yet as I took it straight to school, disassembled it and am in the process of fitting it with a wood stock.

Seemed to work pretty good for Lucas.....I loved this show growing up.

There has been past discussion on the number of shots that Chuck pops off.....some say they dubbed in extras.
The gun holds 11 but you can hear 12+ going off. How many shots fired in the Rifleman opening, The Riflemans Rifle |
Also...Chuck was one of only 12 athletes to play both pro baseball and basketball.
His stats say he batted and threw as a lefty but works the Winchester the other way. I'd think it was due to the ejection gate. |
Jeff, every time you post your opinions on guns, my wallet gets lighter.
I have a Marlin Carbine in .22. I have seen the pictures of your Ruger's. Any other recommendations? |
Jeff don't like Henrys much. It's a pretty sumb***ch tho.
Looked at a SS Marlin .357 a couple days ago. That would make me happy. |
My father has a Marlin lever action rifle in .35Remington that I'll be inheriting. I made him some ammo for it a couple years ago. It's his "brush gun" and it looks brand new, like it's never been used...

I'm thinking a Winchester 1894 in 30-30. Any other thoughts in Caliber?

My lever guns tend to be single shot.

the pre 64 is on the left. The one on right is an olin era that I sold. Pretty noticeable difference in build quality. |
