torque curve for the new 4 runner, where can I fine it?

I have goggle and looked but couldn't fine a graph for the tq. curve. I am thinking about buying a 2012 4 runner. They only offer a V6 so I am a little worry about the torque being way up high like my S2000. I would get tire of winding it up so high daily. Any suggestions on the vehicle are welcome. I know nothing about them. I don't know anything about their electronic off road stuff. I wish it was like the old days where you can just lock both the front, read, and center diffs and have a go at it.

Ooops, I mean find. Sorry for my fine typing skill again.

dunno if this is the same engine? http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/55223-torque-curve-b-w-v6-vs-v8.html
4.0 V6 1GR-FE approximate torque % (torque at specific RPM divided by max torque):

Max Torque listed is 282 ft/lbs at 3800 rpms

1000 rpm = 220 ft/lbs over 282 ft/lbs = 78% of max torque
2000 rpm = 250/282 = 88.6%
3000 rpm = 260/282 = 92.8%
4000 rpm = 275/282 = 97.5%
5000 rpm = 255/282 = 90.4%

I found that but it isn't the 2012 truck. I wish they still offer the v8. I think it might have been in my driveway by now. I can't believe I can't find a simple graph on tq. curve. Thanks for looking it up for me.

I did. It just feels like a small engine that need to be wind-up to get power. it didn't feel like a truck should be. My expectation may have been to high during the test drive. I like their big Sequoia. that thing felt like a big truck that just will not slow down. Torque was felt through out the rpm range. I suppose all auto companies are trying to make mileage count so they put these wind-up little motor that produce power up near the top of the rpm range and claim to have high hp and tq. numbers.

Consider a Nissan Pathfinder with the 5.6L V8. Or any number of new American SUVs.

new 2013 Pathfinder? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328505801.jpg

I don't really care what it looks like. They could have make the top more square so you can stuff more things in the back, like the old fashion Suburban, Land Cruiser, or any of the old style SUVs. The rounded or taper top sure loose a bit of cargo room. I am looking for utility and must have low range 4WD.

Kaisen,

That pathfinder or a Tahoe isn't exactly cheap.

kaisen 02-06-2012 04:46 AM

They're both cheaper than a 2012 4Runner at real transaction prices

This is the 1gr-fe 4.0l

Here's a better representation of Toyota's 4.0L VCT torque curve (in orange):

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328542011.jpg

Below 3000 rpm, there's not much there. From 3000 to 5500 rpm, it's stout. That explains your driving impressions.

OTOH, all the V8s in this class make more power from 1500 rpm than the V6s make peak
(exception the Ford 3.5L EcoBoost which makes more than the V8s at low rpm!!!)
Toyota, Ford, GM, Nissan, Dodge/Jeep, etc

This is the V8 Pathfinder I was referencing, not the "new" crossover version

why dont you simply test drive one? if it is too revy, you'll know right away.

my tacoma 6 revs at 1900 at 65 mph.
