I like my 914 better than my brother in law's '84 Carrera, to tell you the truth.

A miata would probably hang with a 914 2.0 on a tight autocross, probably.

Only 2 914's here, but one was a long time ownership. Pretty much wore the thing out not knowing really what I had. Once I built the race car, I knew the cars much better.

Longer wheel base than a 911 with a great polar moment. In fact, a terrific car in which to learn to race. Once you get some of the weight off and get anywhere north of 130 HP, you'd be impressed. Pretty good room inside one as well.

Since it's got coil overs in the back stock, once you put coil overs in front you can do just about anything adjusting the suspension. A truly great package for what it was.

What's more is that you can hot rod a Type IV for a small fraction of a 6 rebuild and 901 914 trannies are cheap.

This tells me you've never been up against an SCCA nationally competitive CSP Miata......those are street legal to boot.
I have..... and been embarrassed more than once. My old 914 AXer could hang with any Porsche AXer in the country.....after a suitable cash infusion.

The 914 is an honest 40 year old sports car but the motors are crap.

He's an Acura driver- doesn't that tell you anything?

I have a 1975 with a 3.0 in it what a blast to drive. It is a well balanced go cart that is raw, rough and nasty. My 83SC is more refined and also a blast to drive. Two different cars that satisfy my needs perfectly. I could really care less what anyone else thinks of either of my cars. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff.

What's more fun to drive than lightweight, mid-engined car that handles like a go-kart? Aside from a modern 500hp+ rocketship.

I would love to own and drive a 914/6, I love those cars!

Racerbvd 02-08-2012 04:05 PM

As someone who has owned 914s for years (but not as many as Paul:p) and tracked both 4 & 6 cylinder 914s, currently spending crazy money to restore a matching numbers 914-6:eek: and of all the different cars I've driven on the track, from a 934 clone with big turbo, 2.0 914, 500hp Z06 Vette, the most fun car that I have driven on the track was a 400hp 914-6 GT clone (3.8 Engine) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328749393.jpg
Then look at what some 914-6s are selling for..

Yes Sir, you do!! BTW, Guys, what model Porsche has taken more FTD than any other model??

sammyg2 02-08-2012 04:45 PM

My first one was a 1971 with a stock 1.7 liter. Slow and reliable, I drove it all through college. Put over 50k on it before I got stoopid and argued with a big ole tree. and lost. Sold it to Aase bros for $750 IIRC.

Second one was a 2 liter with a turbo, estimated power at around 175 hp.

Third one had a 350 chebby. To anyone who thinks a V8 in a 914 can't handle good, yer wrong. I finished in the top 5 in that car out of 60 cars with 10 talented instructors and I caint drive fer crap. I drove it with my right foot.

Will I ever own another 914? Prolly not. I like 911s so much more. But I still had allot of fun in 914s over the years.

Did you build the Turbo conversion????http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328763341.jpg

Tobra 02-09-2012 06:46 AM

I base what I said about miatas and 914s on what I have driven. Never drove a 914 with crummy tires, all plenty sticky. Never drove a miata with good tires on it. Crappy Nankangs on my daily, sticky yokos on the 914. Clearly the miata has a better starting point, suspension wise. Dig the spartan, elemental thing in the old 914. Can make them very light and very fast, true of them both.

Yup.

I've had a turbo baja bug, a turbo 914, a turbo 911 SC, and a supercharged Chrysler hemi flatbottom drag boat.

I like positive intake manifold pressure.

This is a repost but I still say......invite those 914 bashers to bring their favorite ride to the next PCA autocross event, where they will receive a free clock-cleaning.

I swear, some of the 914's at our local AX events seem to HOP from cone to cone. Like a cartoon bunny. The only thing that can keep up with them in classes like S1 and GTU are well-sorted......924's.
