this is the second time in a year an ogden/weber knock/announce warrant (which means that they announce from outside, usually at night, and break the door down).

it is unfortunate that an officer is dead and five others injured. perhaps it is time to rethink this policy.

the last one that got sideways on them, they had the wrong guy, even though they knew that the guy they wanted wasn't living at the house anymore. they announced, broke the door down, and had shot the occupant within about four seconds, as he was holding a deadly golf club.

i am sorry that these officers were injured and another is dead. however, this kind of police action seems pretty much cowboy/gunslinger to me. someone is going to get hurt.

i got one of my 'facts' wrong: the recent incident was a knock warrant (if the media and police are to be believed), the one in 2010 was a no-knock warrant. however, the style of 'task force' is the same. this is what happens when we militarize our police force.

Whether they have the right house or not, somebody is getting shot in almost every single raid like that.

At my house, the dogs would be barking long enough before they got to the door that a few of them would probably get shot before they killed me in my own home. I guess my kids and grandkids could cash in on something like that, but not enough.

LE serves hundreds of search warrants and warrant services, every single day, in the United States.

Lets assume that only 10 HIGH RISK warrants are served in each state, 5 days per week. That would be 500 HIGH RISK warrants served each day, monday through friday.

500 x 5 days= 2,500 high risk warrants per week, 10,000 high risk warrants per month, or

120,000 high risk warrants per year.

now, how many of those 120,000 search warrants/warrant services result in shots fired and/or injury/death to police offices or to civilians????

yet, you say "somebody is getting shot in almost every single raid like that."

This is what happens when desire to raid the house overcomes common sense. Even when I was a prosecutor I advocated avoiding this type of situation unless someone's life inside the house was in immediate danger. The testosterone flows, common sense dissipates and this is what happens. How long were the cops on the scene after the shooting? Hours I would imagine. Same amount of time could have been spent surrounding the residence and then telling the suspects to come out un-armed. Save the door busting until you have too. A cop's life is never worth losing over a drug bust.

When 'no knock' warrants get people killed, it's time to think about not issuing or applying for that type of warrant....I don't care if it's the home owner or the PD or the poor little innocent (ethnic deleted) crippled girl down the street who takes an errant round.....

The Stupid-visor AND the Judge are at fault. It's not like NNWs save anytime.....it just looks good on the news and the PD gets to play with their new HLS provided gadgets, armor and weapons.

yep. but i also stay out of trouble. when i was younger, i was hassled a few times, but in nearly every case, i was asking for it. interestingly, the incident i had was from an officer from the same department as listed in the OP, ogden/weber, about 1.5 years ago. this officer's behavior was outrageous and his lieutenant was informed (not that i believe a single thing was done about it).
