I'm all for pushing the envelope but really. Who signed off on this?

The setup, a photographer doing a spot for Dell computers.

Scrub to 2 minutes in.

I think it's a terrible idea as an ad, but hillarious as a random video. Skip to 2:30.

Good question.

That is a WFT for sure.

Its weird, but thats the point. They are poking fun at the phony baloney 'passionate artist' ads technology companies come up with. Its meant to appeal to hipster computer professionals on the coasts, not middle America.

recycled sixtie 02-22-2012 09:51 AM

As I read this thread on my Dell laptop I have trouble making the connection between selling Dell products and the adv. Products sold 0, entertainment 5 out of 10. More and more ads. I wonder what is being sold.

Jackass already did it....

My take on this is that crappy computers work well for processing farts. Makes sense :).

It's not. I tol' 'em in post #9 but they didn't listen. Nobody listens to the Bobster.

Seriously, the fake "ad" is about two days old and has gone viral. I can't find the real Dell ads that this is making fun of. I would like to compare them.

"poking fun at the phony baloney 'passionate artist' ads"

YUP

It wasn't even entertaining.

I think it was a reason for some twisted person to focus on a fat man's butt.

wdfifteen 02-23-2012 04:44 PM

No one in their right mind would think it would sell computers except as a parody of Apple's artsy community of buyers. How many people who would get it are willing to invest 3 minutes into getting the message and then buying a Dell? None.
