Am I paranoid of being scamed?
Trying to get ride of old piano that has been sitting in my garage for 10 years.
Mind you I am only asking $300: Ran a craigslist ad and got this: Hello, I appreciate your prompt response to my initial email and I would like to know the lowest price you would go for the piano and will also appreciate more pictures if you still have. I would have been happy to travel down for the pickup and make payment for the piano myself, but I just relocated due to an urgent project. However,I will be willing and glad to pay with a USPS Money Order. I will also arranged with a picker/carrier who will come for the pickup of the Piano at your address or any public place of your choice. The money orders will cover your payment and my picker's payment. Once you've received the money orders, take it to your bank and get it cashed, deduct your payment for the piano and send the remaining funds to the picker for the picking up of the piano. I want to purchase this piano for my daughter who will be starting a musical lesson very soon and she has been all over my neck on this. I'll appreciate it if you consider it sold to me via this means. To clear any doubts, After payment clears and cash at your bank, then my picker will be coming for the pickup of the piano.I will like to know how your name should appear on the USPS Money Order and what valid residential/office address or public place should I mail it to via UPS courier service.I am ready to make payment as soon as I get your mailing details. You can trust me via this means of payment and it's 100% legitimate. Thanks for selling the piano to me via this means. Note that my shipper will be coming for the pick-up after you must have successfully received and cashed the money order at your bank. Hope to hear back from you soon. |
BS.
tell him to send you the check for the piano and he can send a separate check to the shipper. damn. this would con my parents. easy |
No, like the other thread this will likely involve stolen numbers etc. Cash only, local pickup. Next email back gets all boo hooey, tell them to die in a fire.

craigslist as scammer's heaven.

Did you put, "willing to be shipping broker" in the ad?
Stilted language like that is always a red flag to me. |
Why be paranoid...same old scam.

Yeah... seemed like a big run around for a $300 piano... I would rather donate it to a charity than put up with this BS.
I didn't think a scamer would stoop to such a low dollar amount... I guess times are had on everyone. :p |
I wonder how much longer Craigslist will be viable. I am already having to shift away from it for some things, including my rental listings. Its gotten to a point where anything posted or received is suspicious.

as long as u treat it like a flea market, it works.
cash in-hand or get the hell out. |
just tell her / him the Piano is on the curb in front of your house awaiting the "picker". After they've loaded the Piano, they can leave the $300. on the curb. You can't be there because you're on a ship in the middle of the ocean.
