Extended Warranty Purchases?
Didn't bite on another one. This time on a new frig. (Still have a time period to choose though.)
Anyone ever have to use one?

If you need piece of mind, the only worth one is on TV at COSTCO.
3 extra years after their own 2 years is $60 on a $999 TV, more than half the cost of the 4 years Best Buy and the like charges

Haven't opted for one yet and so far have not regretted it - knock on wood however.

A good general rule of thumb is to never buy insurance against any loss that you can reasonably afford out of cash flow. Idea is that we each do enough things that could be insured and the costs of those insurances are usually quite unreasonable when taken against the probability of loss and cost of replacement - just put the insurance saved into a savings account and over time you will come out ahead.
Unless you have a little black cloud over your head... C. |

Small appliance insurance is a winner for the underwriter. Sure there are people who use it and win but the key there is that not many people will reap the benefit of their warranty. If you want a warranty for your fridge you could get american home shield. I go AHS and the fridge broke...they sent someone in and fixed it. The beauty of the whole home warranty is that it covers so many more things than just the fridge - major downside is that it is 400-600 a year.

CPO warranty on my P-cars has served me well.

+1 on the CPO for the Porsche
I bought one on a big screen TV. The TV went out so I called about getting it fixed. They said no problem it'll take about 3 weeks. I didn't want to wait so I called my local TV repair shop who picked it up and brought it back a couple days later for about $100. I figure I buy enough stuff that I can pay for the occasional repair out of the money I save by not buying an extended warranty.
