Sorry, cannot wait for the F1 season to start...

F1 push a button to make it easier to pass, real racing?

FYI, there's a kart track I frequent here in Charlotte, that nearly all of the time, when a "new" Nascar driver comes to Charlotte, they end up getting brought there by people from the team.

That included Kimi Riakenenn when he drove for Kyle Busch last year. I was expecting a lot more from him, he had very good running conditions, but would of gotten toasted by Ryan Truex who had been there the week before. The Sprint cup cars are low down force relative to their speed and horsepower, it takes an awefull lot of skill to get those things around the tracks like they do. Most of 'em are pretty good at both left and right turns, although some, like Carl Edwards, really struggle in a kart.

[QUOTE=Geneman;6582733]That seemed to be a very subtle/minor rear end tap that sent her into a spin/wall today in the NNS show.

It seems to me she way overcorrected/reacted and thus her subsequent moves, after the tap, is what really sent her sideways. What does the brain trust think??

There is nothing subtle at 180mph.
Do you have any idea the guts it takes just to get into the car?
It can be unnerving just doing a formation lap all side by side in any race.
Side by side at 180+ for hours takes all the skill, stamina, focus, that a driver has.

Road race cars even F1 only hit the top speed for a few seconds .
These guys run flat out for hours.

Actually, I know of only two tracks that you run flatout, and even then, they may be using the brakes, while holding the throttle wide open. The car getting upset from engine braking when lifting off the right foot on a super speed way is all it takes to lose it, brakes are more controllable.

Outside of Talledega and Daytona, they are a long ways from running flat out.

Oooh ahh, F no passing 1. Zzzzzz

Oooh, you must have been asleep all of the last two seasons then! Now we understand it!

There was more passing in the last two years of F1 than the 10 years before that.

Next argument?

Dan J 02-26-2012 08:43 AM

I've been fortunate enough to race at Daytona (in a Porsche) And coming through Nascar 4
at 175 gave me great respect for the Nascar drivers. They're in a pack and going faster
I'm not sure I make it to the chimp level as I'm not sure I could be trained for that

Have you ever driven a race car?

Only for 8 years, both sports car and open wheel, yep sure have. Personally I love racing in the rain as it pretty much equals the cars out and shows who is the better driver and not who only has the $$$ for more power.

How many years have YOU raced buckwheat now that you ask?

I do not know much about life at high speed. My job starts at 160 mph and continues up to 600 mph in the jet I fly for a living... landing at 160 in rain, snow and poor vis.

OK, now that we're all impressed, enjoy whatever you chose to watch. For me, if it's the difference between the Daytona 500, Arenacross or golf, I'll take the cars.

BTW, I've crashed too, but I've never hit a wall. Walls scare the hell out of me.

rusnak 02-26-2012 09:25 AM

If any one of us hit a wall at speed, it would scare the hell out of us. We're lucky as spectators to be able to watch if we choose. What Danica does for Nascar is make it not so hillbilly redneck white male dominated.

It's going to be a hillbilly redneck sport as long as Nascar keeps Larry and Darrell in the booth.

Boogity, Boogity Boogity.

lonewolf 02-26-2012 09:43 AM

I hit a wall at speed, dead sideways. Not fun.
The roll cage ,That I had them redo 3 times ,saved my life.

I'll bet If I could get you Darrell's money/net worth if you could talk like he does, you'd be singing in Kentuckian. Or better yet, trade you McReynolds' money if you can do Birmingham AL accent for life.

You get a... "What's wrong with you!" ;):D

Haters

Alot of people here hate NASCAR and Danica, but yet click of this thread to comment. I don't get it. Any driver gets my respect, even if they are faster/slower than I am. And no matter what they race, lawnmowers and barstools included.
The cars ARE difficult to drive and for me, impossible at those speeds. They are at the limit and racing closer than I park at the store. How hard is the racing? Ask one of the "winning" F1 drivers. Or Marcos Ambrose.
It's great racing.

sammyg2 02-26-2012 10:15 AM

She's the most over-rated driver in history. if her skills matched her hype, she'd never lose a race.

I'm all for equality, so I think she should be treated the same as the male drivers.
No preferential treatment, no special endorsement deals for being a poor mid-pack driver, no more three interviews in one show for a driver who has never won a nascar race.
I feel she should be rewarded for her performance, not for what's between her legs (or isn't).
She's a joke, but not as big of a joke as the clowns who built her up so much. You can see it in this thread.
She hasn't done spit (except crash), hey maybe we should give her a nobel peace prize!

Here's what she's done to deserve all that hype:

race series: .................................................. ....wins:

British Formula Ford Championship......................0
Formula Ford Festival.......................................... .0

That's right kiddies, she's won ONE pro race in her career, yet she struts around like her sheet don't stink and acts like she's one of the best drivers on the circuit, instead of what she really is, one of the worst.

I saw that race she won, it was a a fluke and had nothing to do with any supposed skils she had. Because of some very "creative" yellow flag strategy on the part of IRL, all the leaders had to pit on the last lap for fuel, except for danica. Some folks speculated the race finish was orchestrated. It certainly appeared like it.

Hey, while we're on the subject: do you think she'll spin out while cruising behind the pace car and take out another driver, like she did in that other 500 race?
She can't even warm up her tires without crashing.

lonewolf 02-26-2012 10:16 AM

I think Danicas biggest fan is D Waltrip.
He's treating her like she is his own daughter since she impressed him in a Arca race.

rusnak 02-26-2012 10:19 AM

Joe, did you just quote yourself back there?

sammyg2 02-26-2012 10:29 AM

Oh and in case anyone asks, yes I have raced on a banked oval. I have felt a 4 wheel drift towards the wall, but I always made the corner.
It was a smaller track than the super speedways they race on, but the feeling is the same and some say the smaller banked ovals are even tougher.

Ive done laps at speed on the California speedway too, but they had a chicane at the end of the straight so that slowed us down a little.

Zeke 02-26-2012 11:39 AM

Well, sammy, that's quite a career. It sure looks better than mine (which was non existent, but I could wannabe with my little kart). Speaking of which, I do believe she did win in karts. Speaking of which, how many races/championships did you win? I don't have many trophies myself.

The problem with Danica, IMHO, is that she has been promoted prematurely to each series like the Peter Principle. Now that she's in stock cars we'll see what happens. Even the most successful transplant into stock cars has only 1 win (Montoya, at a road course) and most except Almendinger and Hornish left quietly. And we don't know about them yet.

Danica won't be judged as a success or failure until she has a couple of seasons in NW. Remember, rookies are seeing a track for the first time in most cases.

I don't mean to necessarily defend Danica. Last year I started a thread about how bad she was in Indy car. She's still better than I ever was and maybe you too. :)
