this years flu bug?!?

I got the flu shot this year, but I've caught something nasty.

I'm usually able to beat these things in a day or two but this bug is dragging on an on.

Any others suffering with chills, fevers, aches and pains?

How long does this ***** last?

recycled sixtie 02-27-2012 06:03 AM

It lasted for me, my wife and a neighbor several weeks. It comes and goes. Feel like crap one day, next day good. But I dont know if it is the same strain. If it is the same, then u heal slowly:eek:

got it... it's not one of those flu REALLYREALLYSICK for days kind of deal
it's mild enough to still work, but bad enough to make work miserable.

I was in bed with throat sores and a high fever for four days in mid-February, then recovered but continued to drag my butt around with zero energy. Last Friday, it hit again with the clogged, runny sinuses, headache, fever and serious fatigue. Blah. :(

I caught it late Sat. and am hating it now. I'm drinking OJ and wheat tea. I had some friends over with three small kids the other night and was on an airplane the day before. So that probably had something to do with it.

I am starting in on week #2. No major fevers but body aches, throat and sinus issues galore. I have not had a flu shot in 10+ years and this is the first real sickness I have experienced during that time. I am still drinking my morning espresso but the rest of the day is water and oj.

Ronbo 02-27-2012 07:34 AM

Wife and I just got over it. It was bad for us for a couple of days, followed by a few more days of sinus issues. First time I've been sick in years.

jyl 02-27-2012 07:34 AM

Mildest flu season in years, this year. Probably related to the very mild winter. No consolation for those of you who are ill.

gr8fl4porsche 02-27-2012 07:53 AM

Your symptoms sound just like what went through my house last week. Kids missed a week of school due to fever. I was laid up for a couple days. Not horribly ill just could not get out of bed. Fever, body aches, cough and generally out of energy.

I came down with somehting wicked about two months ago. It didn't hit me hard, just lasted for 2 weeks.

Not sick enough to make me take off from work, but sick enough to take all my energy away. I cringe at the thought of having it again.

Having a flu shot does NOT mean you cannot get the flu, your just more resistant to the one they immunized you for.. There are thousands of strains of flu, and they can only forecast what one will make the rounds, sometimes they are wrong, so you really have NO protection, other times a rogue strain can hit a certain area.

fastfredracing 02-27-2012 09:55 AM

Same here, knocked me down for 2 days (missed work even) then lingered for a few weeks, where I generally just felt achy, congested, and stomach issues.
Glad that is gone.

Same here . started last night. Feel like I got the crap beat out of me. Everything hurts. Typical flu symptoms.

Got my flu shot back in Dec.

twobone 02-27-2012 10:57 AM

I guess a new strain got thru this year

According to my doc that was something else, a viral infection that settled in the lungs and could require antibiotics even though they don't work on viruses. There were no aches to speak of but I was out of service.

I got the flu on Jan 2nd that kicked my butt for 5 days and I felt fine on Jan 1st.

Then it turned into pneumonia, what fun!

LWJ 02-27-2012 04:24 PM

My family of five has been puking on and off since Thanksgiving. Not the flu, but it sucks. I will spare the details. Can't seem to go a week without vomit.

Larry

PS - even my Lab seems to have it!

Rick Lee 02-27-2012 04:27 PM

I'm on day two and it's not getting better. It's not as bad as a full blown flu or cold, but it sucks badly and impacts my drive to do work, as I work from home and am always near my couch and blanket.

A930Rocket 02-27-2012 11:08 PM

Our daughter has been up all night tossing cookies. Hot and cold flashes as well.

I'm praying I don't get it.

This is a bad one. I got and knock me out of service for about 3-4 days. It went around the family and landed my dad in the hospital. it took almost two months for me to get rid of everything. This was about a month ago. I finally went to the doc for some antibiotics and got rid of the cough. That f'ing cough will keep you up all night. that cough is the worst part. My kid now has it the second time around. Fever and throwing up, chills, all that fun stuff. The kids at their school continue to get sick and it goes around again. My wife is feeling it this evening. I starting to cough again and feels the little itch in my throat. I am not looking forward to it.
